Allen, Associate Minister at Embury United

Methodist Church in Birmingham, Michigan for the past year, was
elected to Elder's Orde rs and received as a Full Member of The
Detroit Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, on
Wednesday afternoon, June 5th, as the 133rd consecutive annual
session of the Conference began in Dawson Auditorium on the Campus
of Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.
On Wednesday evening, he was ordained an Elder in the United
Methodist Church by Bishop Dwight E. Loder, Resident Bishop of
The Michigan Area of The United Methodist Church .
Son of Mr. Ira Ro Allen of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan,
The Rev. Mr. Allen was graduated from Grosse Pointe High School
in grosse Pointe in 1 966.

He received a B. of Philosophy degree from Grand Valley
State College at Allendale, Michigan in 1970; and a Master of
Theology degree from Boston University School of Theology at
Boston, Massachusetts in 1973.
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference
of The United Methodist Church in Grosse Pointe, Rev . Allen was
elected to Deacon' s Orders by the Detroit Annual Conference in
1971 and was also received as a Probationary Member in The Dettoit
Conference in 1971.

Elders Orders and Reception into Full

Membership in an Annual Conference are the final steps into the
Ministry of The United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Allen is the former Miss Sandra Lynn Mackus, Da ughter
of Mr. and Mrs . Earl Mackus of Grandville, Michigan .
Rev . and Mrs. Allen are the parents of one child; Matthew Ira,
11 months.
Rev. Allen has been assigned by Bishop Loder to serve as
Minister at Flint Park United Methodist Church in Flint, Michigan
for the coming year.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE
Rev. Terry Wayne Allen, a seminarian who is studying at
Boston University School of Theology of Boston, Mass., was
received as a probationary member of the Detroit Conference
of the United Methodist Church.

He was also ordained a

deacon by Bishop Dwight E. Loder.

The change in relationship

to the Conference and the ordination were part of the 130th
annual meeting of the

Det~oit

Conference of the United Methodist

Church at the Adrian College campus in Adrlia.n, Mich. June 8-12.

Mr. Allen graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in
Grosse Pointe, Mich. in 1966.

He received a Bachelor of Philoso-

phy degree from Grand Valley State College in Allendale, Mich.
in 1970 and is currently studying at Boston University School
of Theology in Boston, Mass.

Mr. Allen is the secretary of

the Boston University School of Theology Student Association
and a member of Field Education Committee.
Mrs. Allen is the former Sandra Lynn Mackus, daughter
of Mr . and Mrs . Earl Mac kus of Grandville, Mich.

Mr. Allen

is the son of Mr. and Mr s. Ira Allen of Grosse Pointe Farms .

New UM Foundation
executive director named
The executive committee of the United
Methodist Foundation of the Detroit Annual Conference has recommended to
Bishop Judith Craig that the Rev. Terry
Wayne Allen be appointed as the executive director of the Foundation effective in
June . The Bishop has appointed him .

Allen

The Rev. Karl Zeigler, having served in
that capacity for ten years, took a position
in Chicago last November. Since that time
Dr. Orville H. McKay has been the interim
executive director.
Terry Allen has given leadership in

stewardship in the Detroit Annual Conference for most of this decade; for four
years he served as division director. He is
a certified Stewardship Associate with the
General Board of Discipleship.
For seven years Allen was a member of
the Detroit Conference Council on
Ministries and its executive committee.
This experience has given him insight into Conference direction and program . For
two years, from 1978 to 1980, he was the
Pacific Northwest Director for Church
World Service/CROP, opening a new office
in Spokane, WA.
He has served a number of churches in
the Detroit Annual Conference. He is currently the minister of the First United
Methodist Church in Ferndale where he
has led successfully an endowment fund
program attracting $40,000 in cash and
stock with numerous additional commitments in wills and bequests.
He is a graduate of Grand Valley State
College and Boston University School of
Theology. He and his wife Sandra and
their two children make their home in
Ferndale.

IRA RUSSELL ALLEN,
father of the Rev. Terry Allen,
died Dec. 13, 2002. A memorial service took place at the
Livonia: Newburg UMC on
Dec. 22.

DOROTHY E. ALLEN,
74, of Pigeon, died May 30 at
Scheurer Hospital there . She
was the stepmother of the Rev.
Terry Allen, p astor ar Troy _
First UMC. Dorothy was born
in Port Huron on Aug. 23,
1920, the daughter of the late
Herbert L. and Viola A.
(Moak) Glidden. On Sept. 19,
1942, she was unit~d in marriage to Edgar P. Meyersieck at
Immanuel UMC in East
Detroit. Dr. Meyersieck preceded her in death Feb. 25,
1966. On Oct. 4, 1975, she was
married to Ira Russell Allen in
East Detroit. He survives her. .
Mrs. Allen was a secretary for
the East Detroit Public
Schools for over 20 years. She
and her husband relocated to
Pigeon in 1980, where she was
a member of Pigeon First
UMC, the UMW, and the
Farm Bureau. She is survived
by her husband, Ira Russell
Allen; a daughter, Carol A.
Oon) Dufendach, of Delta
Junction, Alaska; two sons,
Roger ]. (Gloria) Meyersieck,
Sterling Heights, and Scott
(Susan) Meyersieck of Pigeon;
two step-sons, Rev. Terry (Sandra) Allen ofTroy and William
R. (Cosie) Allen of Grand
Rapids; a step-daughter, Sandra L. (Scott) Seeburger of
Saginaw; and many other relatives. Funeral services were
conducted on June 2 from
First UMC, Pigeon, with the
Rev. Willard King, pastor, officiating. Memorials may be
made to Scheurer Hospital,
Pigeon; Immanuel UMC,
Eastpointe; or to the organization of tt.e donor's choice.

CROP ELECTS REGIONAL CHAIRPERSON 8/lf/1??/
of First United Methodist Church in Troy has

Church World Service/CROP executive board. In
addition to serving on the Michigan regional board,
Allen also is on the national Church World Service/CROP Community Education and Fund Raising Committee. He has coordinated CROP walks
in Ferndale, Oak Park, Ple~sant Ridge, Southfield
and Troy. From 1978 to 1980 Allen was the direcc Northwest Area CWS/C'ROP office located in Spocwslcrop
