" I
Gordon E. Ackerman
It has been a privilege to be a pastor for fortytwo years. As I look back over my ministry I
was fortunate to have encountered three special
pastors who took the time to mentor me. I
received my call to the ministry at the Immanuel
church in Harper Woods. Gary Kellerman, Jr.
was the pastor at the time and he taught me the
importance ofbeing connected with the people
you serve. Larry Taylor was the next pastor at
Immanuel and helped me develop many of my
study habits. My father-in-law, T.H. Sanders
helped me develop my great love for the
Scriptures. These pastors and the churches I
served have helped me make what I am today.
I was especially blessed in February 1958 when
I took Marilyn for my bride. The Scriptures
speak of a helpmate and she truly has been. She
has supported and loved me at every step of the
way. She has cheerfully played the organ or
piano when needed and was the temporary
organist at Clawson for the last seven years.
I am also thankful for the support of our
daughters and their excitement as we moved
from church to church. It really helped when
they entered into the moves with such
enthusiasm.
Each parish where I have been appointed has
had its own unique opportunities and challenges.
At times it was trying as most endeavors are, yet
the rewards have been great. In each we have
been blessed with wonderful lay people who
have faithfully
served the
church and
have ministered
to me and my
family in so
many different
ways for we
have found
ourselves made
part of more
families than
one can count.
For this new chapter of our life, we have built a
home in Wixom and are looking forward to our
retirement years when we will have
opportunities to serve in new ways. We also
look forward to spending time with our family
and our new grandchildren.

Note:W e are desirous of securing for the Historical files of the Michigan Conference complete and detailed
information concerning all ministers who have served and are now serving in the Conference. The above outline
is intended to assist in securing such information in more or less uniform outlines. We urge the addition, on a
separate sheet, of such other important and interesting information as cannot be conveniently placed on this blank.
In the case of men now living, the information can, of course, be only up to date. Photographs of living and deceased ministers, diaries, letters and documents of historical interest are earnestly solicited. Your co-operation
in behalf of the Conference Historical work will be greatly appreciated. Kindly return .the blank to the Conference Historian.
