FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE:
The Rev. Gary Anthony Allward was elected to Elder's Orders, and received
as a Full Member of the Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church,
on Wednesday afternoon, June 7, as the 137th consecutive annual session of the
Conference began in Dawson Auditorium on the campus of Adrian College,
Adrian, Michigan.
On Friday evening, June 9, he was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist
Church by Bishop Edsel A. Ammons, Resident Bishop of the Michigan Area of the
United Methodist Church.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean V. Allward of Ypsilanti, Michigan, The Rev.
Allward was graduated from Ypsilanti High School in Ypsilanti , Michigan. He
received a B.A. degree from Western Michigan University at Kalamazoo, and a
M. Div. degree from Garrett-Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, in 1977.
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference of First
United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti, in 1975, Rev. Allward was elected to
Deacon's Orders by the Detroit Annual Conference in Tune, 1974 and was
received as a Probationary Member in the Detroit Conference at that time.

Elder's Orders and Reception into Full Membership in an Annual Conference are
the final steps into the Ministry of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Allward, is the former Miss Linda Anne Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Smith of Jackson, Michigan.
Rev. and Mrs. Allward are the parents of one chUd: Andrew.
The Rev. Allward has been assigned to Calvary United Methodist Church
in Monroe , Michigan, as Minister by Bishop Ammons for the coming year.

Church by Bi shop Dwight E. Loder, Resident Bishop of The Michigan Area of The
United Me thodist Church.
Son of Mr . and Mrs . Dean Al lward of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
The Rev. Mr.
Allward was graduated from Ypsil anti High School in Ypsilanti, Mi chigan.
He received B. A. degr ee from Weste rn Michigan University in Kalamazoo in
1969 ; and is presently enrolled as a student at Garrett-Evangelical Theological
Seminary in Evanston, Illinois .
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference of First
United Methodist Church, Ypsil anti , Michigan .
The Rev . Mr. Allward is pursui ng
the course of study required for full membership in the Detroit Annual Conference.
Mrs. Allward , is the former Miss Linda Smith daughter of Mrs . Madeline Rupert
of Jackson , Michigan and the late Mr. Joy Smith.
Gary A. Allward
I began my ministry with the Detroit Annual
Conference at Monroe: Calvary in 1977. From
there I went to Ironwood and served from 1980
to 1985, and the Ironwood, Wakefield Church
from 1985 to 1987. From there I moved to
Brown City: First, Immanuel and served until
1989. I next served at Riverview from 1989 until
1996. I then moved to Flint: Asbury and was
there until 2000.
I worked with the conference camping ministry
for 22 years. I have also been involved with
Emmaus Community and was the original
Spiritual Director for the Superior Land
Emmaus Community.
