Dear Jaruce,
The following represents what I was able to locate regarding John Armstrong since I last wrote to
you.
Born 1836 in Ireland
1865 - at Chesterfield, listed among the "probationers" on Romeo District
1866 - Member of Conference, admitted into " full connection" appointed to Almont
1866-1869- appointed to Almont
1.870-71 -appointed to Lapeer
1872- "Located" (apparently at this time he began to serve a church of another
denomination in Lapeer )
1873-1878 - no mention in the Conference Minutes
1878 - appointed as "supply" at Rochester
1878 - no mention (he was not appointed at Rochester)
1880 - appointed to Lexington on the Port Huron District
1881 - requested reinstatement as an Elder in Full Connection
1882 - appointed to "supply" Port Austin
1883-1884 - Algonac on the Port Huron District "supplied by John Armstrong"
T have enclosed a copy of the obituary for William Armstrong that T located in the Minutes of
Conferences.
Now for the interesting twist. The Donald J. Boyle I mentioned to you is a relative of the same
John Armstrong. The information he provided jibes closely with that which you provided. He
indicated that
"His uncle, also the Rev. " Johnny" Armstrong, [1788-1875] was a well known and often written
about Methodist Millister in Ireland referred to quite often in Crookshanks [1880] three volumes
"The History ofMethodism in Ireland.""
He has a Bible that belonged to John. He also wrote that John emigrated with ills sister Elizabeth
Jane in 1858 to Belleville, Ontario.
