REV. AND !\IRS. ROBERT ATKINS
of Whittier, California, visited in the
home of Dr. and Mrs. F red Poole in
Ann Arbor during a brief stay in Michigan en route home after a month in
Ontario where 66 members of Mrs.
Atkins' family enjoyed a week together.
In Michigan 46 members of Mr. Atkins'
family held a reunion. The Atkinses
also visited the Joseph Hus tons in Dext er , attended church at Clarkston, and
visited with former parishioners in Birmingha m. Mr. Atkins, a retired member
of the Detroit Conference, was at one
time super intendent of the Flint District
and served various churches in the Det roit Conference.
REV. AND MRS. ROBERT 1\L ATIONS of Whittier, California, were honored by the ir sons and daughters on the
occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. The event was held at the
home of their son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. (Mary) Morris J. Padia
in Whittier. Their sons, George from
Vancouver, B.C., and Alan T. and his
wife from Milford, Ohio; and t heir
other son-in-law and daughter, Dr.
and Mrs. (Alice) Charles E. Wallace of
Whittier wer e present . The honored
couple's eight grandchil dren assisted
their parents at the reception. The
Atkinses were married April 25, 1916,
at the bride's home in Smiths Falls,
Ontario. At that time Mr. Atkins was
assistant pastor at Detroit Central.
Among the guests were Rev. and
Mrs. William F. Kin sey form e r I y
of Detroit and no w of Sagumi Hills,
Calif.; Mrs. Ha rold T. Ellerky of
Saguna Beach, Cal if., and her son, H .
Thomas Ellerky of San Marino, Calif.,
who were members of Birmingham F irst
and Atkinson Ave., Detroit, during Mr.
Atkin s' pastorates ; and P erry Smith, a
graduate of Albion College and now a
doctoral ca ndidate at UCLA, who represented Firs t Church, Clarkston. Guests
were also present from Firs t Church,
Madison, Wis., and Richmond Avenue
Church, Buffalo, N.Y., as well as many
new-found fri ends in Whittier. Mr. Atkins, member of the Detroit Conference,
retired in 1956 and they moved to Californ ia to make their permanent home
at ~42 N. Friend§ Ave., Whittier, 90601.

REV. ROBERT M. ATKINS, retired
member of the Detroit Conference, died,
June 30, in Whittier, California, where he
made his retirement home. He collapsed
while taking his daily walk and died en
route to the hospital. Funeral services
were held at The United Methodist Church
in Whittier, Rev. Lawrence E . Peel officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill's
Memorial Park.

1892, she was the widow of Rev. Robert
M . A tkins of t he Detroit Conference who
died in 1971 in W hittier where t hey
moved following his reti rement in 1956.

as superintendent of t he Flint District,
