-oJohn A. Yeoman, son of Christopher and Annie
Yeoman, was born in Mytton, Lancashire, England, on
June 21st, 1884.
He was united in marriage with Sarah Ann
Chalmer$ on January 30th, 1909.
They have three
children, May, J. Alexander and Kenneth Chalmers.
Mr. Yeoman was raised in the Episcopal Communion
I
and was led into a saving experience of Christ in
1903 and two years later received his call to preach.
From 1908 to 1912, he was a member of the staff
of the Manchester City Mission, Manchester, England.
In 1912 he came to the Detroit Annual Conference and
has held the following appointments: Argyle, 1912-14;
Owendale, 1914-17; Midland, 1917-21; Detroit, Whitefield, 1921-26; Detroit, Calvary, 1926-35; Superintendent, Marquette District, 1935-40; Flint, Oak

Park, 1940.
His early education was received in England and
upon coming to America he took the conference course
of study, after which he studied in connection with
the Uni ted Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Xenia,

Ohio, from which he received the degree of Bachelor

Chalm ers Ja nuary 3, 1885, in Haydock,

in 1912 and immediately joined the Detroit Conference, serving pasto ra tes at
Argyle, Owenda le, Midland, Whitefi el~l ,
Ca lvar y a nd East Grand Boulevard m
Detroit and Oak Park in F lin t; and t he
supet·in'tendency of the Miii·quette Dist rict. }Irs. Yeoman is su rvived by a
da ughter, Mrs. Mae Hosha l of Sylvania,
Ohio; a nd two sons, Alex Yeo ma n of
Ply mouth, and Rev. Kenneth Chalmer s
Yeoma n of Ch icago, member of the Rock
River Confe rence.
After the death of her hus ba nd in 1951, }
i\'I I·s. Yeoman beca me t t·emendous ly interested in ce ra mi cs and produced many
lovely things. In her later years, she
gave he rse lf to the work of t he G~·ey
L adi es, and lacked but 11 days of hav mg
s erved ten consecutive years in that
organization. Her 10-year pin will be
awarded pos thum ously. She was allowed to s erve, when s he began, by a
s pecial d is pe nsa tion si nce s he was over
ao·e. Howeve r , s he had one of the longe;t consecut ive service records in t he
organization at t he t ime of her death.
S he was also very active in the Six ty
Plus g-roup in t he local Fi rst Methodis t
Chu rch.

OHN ARTHUR YEOMAN, son of
Christopher a nd Anne Calvert Yeoman, was born June 21, 1884, in Yorkshi re, E ngla nd, t he seventh son in a
fami ly of eight.
H e married Sarah Ann Chalmers on
January 30, 1909. To them wer e bor n
t h ree children, May and J ohn Alex in
England, and Kenneth in America. At
t he time of h is marriage he joined the
staff of the Man chester City Mission, a
post in which he r ema ined a s Special
Evangelist unt il he r esigned to come to
America in 1912.
On anival in thi s country he was appoi nted to the Argyle Circu it in the
Thumb of Michigan. Other churches
which he served wer e Owendale, Midland, .Detroit Whitefield, and Detroit
Calvar y. In 1935 h e was a ppointed to
t he s uperintendency of the Marquette
District under the la t e Bishop Edgar
Blake. Retur ning to t he pastorat e he
served Flint Oak P ark a nd Detroit Eas t
Gra nd Bouleva rd.
Mr. Yeoman r etir ed in 1949 a nd S'ince
that time has resided at 14269 Minehart
Drive, P lymouth. He died May 7 at
Sessions H ospital, Nor thville.
He is s urYived by his wife, Sarah
Ann Yeoman ; th ree child1·en; May (Mrs.
W alter Hoshal), of T oledo, Ohio; J.
Alex of Plymouth; and Ken,!leth of Lock port, Illi nois ; and fi ve g r andchildren.

Methodist Church, Detroit, Wednesday,

long comradeship in the ministry of
J esus Ch ris t a nd th e Church. Interment
t ook place in t he Grand L awn Cemetery,
Redford.
