I was born of common parents April 24, 1882, in
the town of lfallaceburg, Ontario, Canada;. was· raised
in the town and attended the public schools there.
In early life I took up various kinds of work in the
stave mill, grocery store, Doctor's office, then
took up the work of glass blowing in the local
factory.
On New Years Eve, Tuesday, 1901, during a great
revival conducted by two great and widely known
Canadian Evan·gelists, Cross.ley and Hunter, in the
Methodist Church, under the Spirit of conviction, I
was converted with many others.
The old life
passed out with the old year and the New Year started
with a new life of higher and holier ideals.
Shortly afterward I became a Soldier of the
Salvation Army in the local corps.
During the
summer I attended Councils in London and camp meeting:
in Woodstock, then assisted in the work in
St. Thomas, Ontario.
In September I entered the
Army Training College to train for Officership in
Toronto, Ontario.
In February, 1903, I was
commissioned as an Officer by Miss Evangeline Booth,
then Commissioner of Canada.
I was appointed to
Corps work in Eastern Canada, where I served a a
field officer in New Glasgow,, Springhill, Nova Scotia,
Moncton, New Brunswick, Yarmouth, Whitney Pier,
Glace, Bay, Bridgewater and Freeport, Nova Scotia.
From there I was appointed to Special Financial work
travelling in the interest of the Army Social work in
New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and in November 1908
visited Bermuda, New York and Boston.
While on
furlough in 1909, and on account of sickness was on
retired list for eighteen months and then returned to
active work, I was appointed to the Men's Social work
in Totonto, Hamilton, Montreal, Winnipeg, thence to
Ottawa.
In 1914, I was married to Captain Etta Stewart
of Lachute, Quebec.
I then united with the
Methodist Church in the Montreal Conference and was
sent to a Mission work on the Gatineau River to a
place called Kazabaqua, Quebec, then to Vars,
Ontario; from which appointment I was sent to Point
Fortune and attended the Wesleyan ColLege in Montreal
while on the latter circuit.
In September, 1919, we moved to Michigan and
became affiliated with the former Methodist Protestant Church and located at Goodells for three years,
2
then to the Ingham Circuit for eight years.
there we moved to Marlette.
From
After three years we
moved to Three Rivers for three years.
During our
stay there we met with the sad bereavement of the
departure of our wife and mother.
We then were
transferred to the Goodland Circuit and remained
there for three years; thence to Columbiaville where
we remained for two years.
In August, 1940, I was
united in marriage to Mrs. Mildred Bowman of
Pinckney, Michigan.
In July we were appointed to
the Lum charge where we are, at this writing in 1943,
very pleasantly and happily located with a very fine
group of Methodist people and enjoying the work as in
the past.
After twenty years in the former Methodist
Protestant Church, we entered with a whole heart
into the new Methodist Church.
It is a great work
in winning and helping people into the way or
Eternal life.
I found the appealing words of Romans 5:19,
"For as by one man's disobedience many were made
sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be
made righteous" to be a guide to me.
"A rolling stone gathereth no moss, but it
gathereth a great many experiences."
