MRS. J. H. OATEY, widow of the
late Rev. Joseph Oatey, a long-time
member of the Detroit Conference, died
February 24, at the Divine Infant Hospital, Wakefield, where she had been
a patient t wo days.
She was born
Ma ry J ane Brown, on July 3, 1878, at
Humboldt.
She married Mr. Oatey
September 25 , 1906, in Marqu ette, and
served faithfully at his side in churches
at Donaldson, Sidnaw, Amasa, Allouez,
Rockland, Houg hton-Hurontown, Iron
Mounta in Central, Sandusky Pari sh, Sanilac Pari sh, Sandusky, Cla wson, Holly,
Mohawk , Ontonago n, L'Anse, and Wakefield-Bess emer. Upon retirement
in June, 1949, they took residence in
Wakefield, where she lived for 25 years.
H er hu sband di ed Janua r y 26, 1954, and
12 brothers and sisters also preceded
her in death. Surviving are a son and
his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Oatey,
of Warren, and several nieces and
nephews. She was a member of the
Wakefield Church, and a life member of
the E as t ern Star. Mrs . Oatey was very
active in WSCS work, and held an annual lun cheo n for the organization at
her home. She taught Sunday school for
youth, and entertained conference and
di strict church officers. Funeral services were held in the church, F ebruary
26, with Rev. James B. Lumsden, pastor,
offi ciating. The ·body was taken to the
Harris Funer a l Chapel, wher e services
were con du ct ed by Rev. Eric S. H am mar
in Ishpeming, on Sunday, February 27.
Burial was in the famil y lot in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
