Michigan with a TH-S degree in 1945, and received a Certifica te
in 1963 from Ga rrett Theological Seminary.
Rev. BAllard will a ssume the respons1blities of his new
charge on June 16.

Rev. Ballard graduated from the Chapmanville ( West Virginia)

Owosso, Michigan, and ha s completed the Course of Study at

Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois.
During his pas tora t e in the Ossineke parish, six new
\
church echool rooms, two rest rooms and a modern kitchen facility

with full basement were built; a t a cost of approximately $3J,OOO ·
and were dedicated as a Memoria l to Mr. Walter Dann by his wife
without cost to the Wilson United Methodist Church.
Bev. Ballard has estQblished four churches during his
ministry, one is the 6ommunity Church at C8apmanv1lle, West
Virg1n1a 1 one at Oak Ridge, Kansas and two 1n M1oh1gan.

The Rev . R. Kyle Ballard, associate minister at the Grace
United Methodist Church in Flint,
entered into a retired relationship
with the Detroit Annual Conference of the Unit ed Methodist Church at
its recent sessions in Adrian, Michigan.
Ollie, will continue to live in Flint.
Rev. Ballard, and his wife,
He expects to enjoy some
hunting, fishing, and golf, and work as a consultant and financial
broker.
Rev. Ballard graduated from the Chapmanville (West Virginia) high
school and received a Th.B degree from Owosso College, Owosso, Michigan,
and has completed the Course of Study at Garrett Theological Seminary in
Evanston, Illinois.
Before coming to Michigan, Rev. Ballard extablished churches in
West Virginia, and in Kansas.
Previous to serving in Flint, he served
the Ossineke-Hubbard Lake-Wilson Charge.
At Ossineke, six new church
school rooms, modern rest rooms, and a new kitchen facility were built.
The Ballards also served the Seymore Lake Charge at Ortonville, and the
United Methodist Church at Fostoria.
Committees that Rev. Ballard has served on include the Conference
Journal , the Michigan Christian Advocate Circulation Committee, and the
Detroit Annual Conference
Insu~ ance
Committee.
For five years he also
e.di ted and published a magazine entitled "The Pastor's Friend".
The Ballards' have three sons, Jerry; T . 0 . Ballard, a dentist
in San Francisco; and Robert Ballard,

also of California.

by the Uniting Conference of the Unit ed Methodist Church

with the exception of the Execut i ve Se ssion , to those
person s v1ho have met certain requ i r ements of service a nd
education.
Rev . Ballard graduated from Chapmanvill e High School,

Owasso, Michigan, with a TH- B degree in 1945 , rece i ved a

Rev. Ballard was recommended for Lisense t o Preach
by the

Conference of Court Street Methodist Church
Flint, Michigan, in 1959.
Mrs. Ballard is the fo rmer Miss Ollie Ketchin of Logan,
West Virginia.
They have three children Robe rt K. Jr.,
Thomas, and Jerry.
Rev. Ballard is on Conference .Journal Committee,
Michigan Christian Advocate Circulation .
Rev. Ballard has established four churches during his
ministry, the Community Church at Chapmanville, West Virginia, Oak Ridge , Tennessee, and t1vo in Michigan.
Rev. Ballard has been reassigned to Ortonville, Seymour Lake, in the Flint District by Bishop Loder.

Shiawassee Medical Center
Facility in Corunna, following

illness.
He
was born July
11, 1908, to
Walter and
Nettie Garrett
Ballard. He
was .preceded
in death by his
parents, his
wife, Ollie
Kitchen Ballard, his son
Jimmy, two
brothers - Frank of Dunbar
and George of Chapmanville,
and three sisters - Reid Ryder
of
Charleston,
Margaret
"Dutch" Lewis of South
Charleston, and Beulah Parsons of Columbia, S.C. Ballard
retired from the ministry in
197 4, having served churches
in Fostoria (1959); Ortonville
(1965); Ossineke (1969); and
Flint:
Grace. (1970). He is sur.
vived by three sons: Robert
Kyle Ballard, Jr., of Los Angeles; Dr. Thomas 0. Ballard .of
San Francisco; and the Rev.
Jerry A. Ballard of Lutz, Fla.;
and many other relatives. A
memorial service was held
Feb. 15 at Village Chapel
