Ralph T. Barteld
was born in Bay C ity, Mich igan , o n Ocwber 24, 1930, w
Fred and Cora Barreld. Our family moved w Royal O::~k,
Michiga n, in 1943. I gradumed from Eastern Michigan
U niversity \\'ith a Bachelo r of Sc ience in 1966, and The
Method ist Theo log ica l Schoo l in Ohio with a Master of
Di\·i nity in 1970.

D iane Lock\\'ood and I \rere married in 195 1. \Y./e h ave been
blessed with several ch ildren.
We served pastoral appointmenrs a t Lakevi lle (one year, parrtime); Po rt Sanilac; Essex , Ohio (while in seminary) ;
Mayville; Cheboygan; Esca naba and Marysv ille. We have met many \\'onderful
peo ple in eac h c hurch and ha\'e enj oyed th e \\'ork of being a pastor. Fo r sixtee n
years I have sen·ed <1S a chaplain fm the M ichig<m State Police. At present I
se n·e as director of tvlichigan Christian Ashrc1m. I sen ·ed several yems on the
Caree r Planning a nd Counsel ing Committee. I se rved as p res ident of the
Marque tte Disrrict Board of Missions and C hu rch Ex tens ion . During our time
at Escanaba I sen·ed on the Escana ba a nd Delta Counry Pla n n ing
Commiss ions. I served many years as dea n at summer church c::tmps. At p resent I serve on the Port Huron District Board of Ministry.
Our minisrry has bee n a testimony of lm·e for Christ and our church fa mil ies.
The work of ministry h as been exci ting and c hallenging. D ia ne a nd I ha\'t!
enj oyed working togeth er ca lling upon church members a nd frie nds.
Our new address will be 713 Caro lim A\'e., Marysv ille, Michigan 48040.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Please
Rev. Ralph T. Barteld, formerly student minister of the
Essex-Mt. Olive United Methodist churches at Richwood, Ohio,
was elected a Full Member and received into the Detroit Conference
of the United Methodist Church at the 129th consecutive annual
session of the Conference meeting in Dawson Auditorium on the
campus of Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan, June 11-15.
He was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church
by Bishop Dwight E. Loder on Thursday evening.
Rev. Barteld, son of Mrs. Cara Barteld of Royal Oak, was
graduated from Royal Oak Dondero high school, from Port Huron
Junior College and from Eastern Michigan University at Ypsilanti .
He received the Master of Divinity degree from the Methodist
Theological School at Delaware, Ohio.
Prior to entering the ministry he was employed in the
freight transportation industry.
Mrs. Barteld is the former Miss Diane A. Lockwood, the
daughte r of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Lockwood of Harper Woods,
Michigan.

the Mayville and Silverwood United Methodist Churches during the
