The Reverend Thomas Butcher was elected to Elder's Orders, and
received as a Full Member of the Detroit Annual Conference of the
United Methodist Church, on WednesdaY. afternoon, June 2nd as the 135th
consecutive annual session of the Conference began in Dawson Auditorium
on the campus of Adrian College, Adrian , Michigan .
On Wednesday evening, he was ordained an Elder in the United
Methodist Church by Bishop Dwight E. Loder , Resident Bishop of the
__ . Michigan Area of the United Methodist Church .

Son of Mr . and Mrs. Donald Butcher, Sr . of Corunna, Michigan,
The Reverend Butcher was graduated from Corunna High School in Corunna,
Michigan.
He received a B.A. degree from Adrian College at Adrian,
Michigan, and a M. Div. and a M.A. in Education from the Pacific
School of Religion in Berkley in 1974.
Reconnnended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference of
First United Methodist Church of Adrian in 1971, Reverend Butcher
was e:}.ected to Deacon's Orders by the Detroit Annual Conference in
1972 and was received as a Probationary Member in the Detroit Conference
i n 1972 .
Elder's Orders and Reception into Full Membership in an
Annual Conference are the final steps into t he ministry of the. United
Methodist Church .

Mrs. Butcher is the former Sherry Snyder, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Dean Snyder of Perry, Michigan.
The Reverend and Mrs. Butcher are the parents of 1 child, Todd
Patrick, aged 3.
The Reverend Butcher has been assigned to First United Methodist
Church in Owosso as Associate Minis t er by Bishop Loder for the
coming year .

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLEASE
Rev. Tom Butcher, a student at Pacific School of Religion , Berkley,
California, was received as a Probationary Member in the Detroit Annual
Conference of the United Methodist Church on Wednesday morning, June 7,
as the l3lst consecutive session of the conference began in Dawson
Auditorium, on the campus of Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.
Rev. Butcher is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald S. Butcher Sr.,
Corunna, Michigan.
He was graduated from the Corunna High School, Corunna, Michigan in
1967; Adrian College with a B.A. degree in 1971.
Rev. Butcher was recommended for a license to preach by the Corunna
United Methodist Church in 1972 and ordained a Deacon at this conference.
He is married to the former Sherry Snyder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Dean Snyder of Perry , Michigan.
