Dear Friend;
Thank you for answering my letter so promptly .
Have enclosed a copy of a page I co pied from t he Oakland County
Pioneer Book, perhaps there is information you can use.

Also

there were 8 living children, 3 having died in infancy.

Oliver

left Canada between 1817 and 1819 , lived in Niagra Co til about 1833
Have found him on 1830 Niagra Co census.
Find it intere sting that Oliver was apparently in Canada at the time
of the War of 1812.

He was 23 at the time of his marriage in 1814.

Discovered also a battle took place in the area where he was .
Battle of Stoney Creek 5 June 1813 .

My question to you would be- -

Did the Army have chaplains at that time?
twenties to young to be a preacher ?

The

Was a man in his early

Could his father have been a

Methodist circuit preacher?
Am reading two books by Pierre Berton about Canada & the War of 1812 .
He gives a vivid description of the settlers of that time as some
were pro- British, some pro- America and some indifferent as they had
led an idylic life before the war .

He also writes about how most

of the settlers are from the U.S . and " .• . Methodist circuit riders
keeping the people law-abiding and temperate. "
Am going to continue my search by writing to our Archives and Ca nadas
for possible military connections.
Noticed that according to t he information on Earl fami l y, Oliver
purchased land in section 36 of Independence township.
would be the SE corner of the township.
would be near Pontiac or Drayton Plains.
on adifferent circuit.

Believe this

Looking at the map this
Maybe he would have been

Oxford and Clarkston are north of this area.

Thank you very much for all of your help.
Sincerely,
