Dempster Yinger was born in the
di st parsona ge Concord,

ichi gan, on February 20,
1907, the second of a family of ei ght children.
The fa mily was one of unusual solidarity, achieved

partly throu gh th e medium of music.
They were

known as the "Yin ger Singers" - two quartets of
them.

Dempst er s an g tenor in the older quartet,
later "The Yinger Sextette" in hundreds of
public concerts from coast to coast.

graduating from the
Greenville Hi gh School in 1924.
He was graduated
from Albion Colle ge in 1929, and spent one year in
Boston University School of Theology.

pastor of Spring Arbor and Sandstone, the latter a
Congre gationa l church.
For three years, while in
school at Evanston, he was pastor of the McKinley
Park Jethodist Episcopal Church of Chicago.
After spending five months in Europe, he re-

turned to America, and was appointed immediately to

I Three Rivers to substitute for his father who had
l been stricken.

George D. Yinger, Sr., lived only
five weeks thereafter, and his son completed the
conference year, and due to th e insistence of the
Three
ivers c hurch, was reappointed as the re gular
pastor, where he had four years of happy service.
At the Albion conference in 1938, he was ap pointed
pastor of the
~ ethodist
Church in Albion.
Zr. Yinger was received on trial in the Michigan Confer ence in 1925; ordai n ed Deacon in 1929,
and Elder in 1931.
In 1928, i n the Albion ·11ethodist Church, he
was married to Miss Ruth Mastin, an Albion College
student, gifted in music; who has shared with him
t he varied experiences since then.
To them was
born on November 19th, 19 3 5, a daughter, Ruth
