by August 1. I regret that I am so late with it. The last
several weeks have been so f'ull that it seemeu impossible
to get this report out sooner. Riverside Assembly, vacation
Bible School, responsibilities at the Arden Food Tent at
the Berrien Youth Fair are among the things which have maie
heavy demands upon my time.
I trust my delay has not caused irreparable inconvenience.

Biographic s·l Sketch
I was born on a forty - acre farm in Castleton Township,
Barry Count y, Michigan, on January 9, 1909 . This farm was the
only place I lived until I was 19 years of age.
I received my early education in the Barryville School
which was loc ated about a mile from home. I gr adua ted from the
eighth grade there in 1923. After attending h i gh school at Hastings
my freshman year , staying home and helping my father on the f arm seemed
more enticing. Howe ver, after remaining home for one year, I decided
to go ~ack to high school and complete my high school education. I
graduated from Hastings High Schoo l in 1928. In the fall of 1928
enro l lme·nt was made at Argubright Business College in Battle Creek,
Michigan, f rom where I was graduated in 1930, in the Secretarial
Science Course. Immediately upon graduation I went to work at the
Michigan Carton Co. in Battle Creek.
The first four years at the Michigan Carton Co. was spent
in the shipping department. Later I was placed in the position of
cost accountant, which position I held until 1947, when I resigned
to attend the Chicago Evange listic Institute in preparation to answer
God's call to the ministry.
The nearby church in the neighborhood where I was reared
was a Me thodist Protestant. My parents were members of this church
for many years. As a small boy I can well remember attending the
revival meetings in this little country church. When I was in my
teens, a certain pastor set aside a certain Sunday as "decision day."
I responded along with several others of the young people of the
church. Shortly after this I wa s baptized. A later pastor one time
asked me, '~Have you ever felt that perhaps the Lord had something
special in mind for you? Can you truthfully sing the hymn, ' Where
He Leads Me I Will Follow' ? I thought at that time that I could, but
as I look back now I was so far from being completely surrende red to
God that I could not have heard His voice if He had spoken in audible
tones.
After I was away from home and home influence, what Christian
expenience I had died out. In 1933, during a series of mass evangelistic
services in Battle Creek, I responded to the invitation and made a new
commitment to the Lord. For several years I was a member of the Presbyterian Churdh in Battl e Creek, and after buying a horne in Urbanda l e
we transferred our membership to the Urbanda le Methodist Church which
was much nearer our home. After working in this church for several
years, we finally bought a place on the southwest side of Battle Creek
in reasonable distance from the Battle Creek Evangelical Church. We
later transferred our membership to this church.
It was while we were attending the Urbandale Methodist Church
that I had a spiritual awakening. This was in March of 1945.
I ex perienced such a sweet assurance and witness of God's Spirit, that my
outlook on life was completely changed. My old ambitions and desires
faded away, and I began to feel that I should be spending the rest of
my life in preaching the Word. After wrestling with this "call" of God
for two years, desiring to make sure that God was really speaking to me,
I surrendered completely to Him, and He has definitely led us step by ·
ste p up to the present time.
How we praise God for His goodness to us, and for the wonderful
privilege it is to be one of His workers in His great harve st field.
