FOR I MMEDIATE RELEASE , PLEASE:
Rev. John Ferris, Student at Garrett Theological Seminary
from 2203 Maple St. in Evanston Illinois, was elected to Deacon's
Orders and received as a Probationary member of The Detroit
Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church on Wednesday
afternoon, June 6th, as the 132nd consecutive annual session
began in Dawson Auditorium on the campus of Adrian College ,
Adrian, Michigan.
On Wednesday evening, he was ordained a Deacon i n the United
Methodist Church by Bi shop Dwight E. Loder, Resident Bishop of
United

of Detroit Michigan, Re v. Ferris was graduated from Cooley High
School in De troit

in 1967.
He received a B. A. degree from Adrian College in Adrian
~ti chigan
in 1971; and is presently enrolled as a student at
Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston Illinois.
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conferenc e
Df {dria n First United Methodist Church in 1973, Re v. Ferris is
pursuing the course of s tudy required for full membership i n the
Detroit Annua l Conference .

The Reverend John C. Ferris was elected to Elder's Orders, and received

as a Full MemBer of the Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist
Church, on Wednesday afternoon, June 8th, as the l36th consecutive annual
session of the Conference began in Dawson Auditorium on the campus of
Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.
On Friday evening June lOth he was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist
Church by Bishop Edsel A. Ammons, Resident Bishop of the Michigan Area of the
United Methodist Church.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Irett Ferris of Detroit, the Reverend Ferris was
graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, Michigan. He received a B.A.
degree from Adrian CoUtee at Adrian, Michigan, and a Master of Divinity degree
from Garrett-Evangelical Seminary in Evanston, Illinois , in 1976.
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference of First
United Methodist Church of Adrian, in 1973, Revere nd Ferris was elected to
Deacon's Orders by the Detroit Annual Conference in June, 1973 and was received

as a Probationary Member in the Detroit Conference in June , 1973. Elder's
Orders and Reception into Full Membership in an Annual Conference are the
·f'l nal steps into the Ministry of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Ferris, is the former Miss Deborah Kennedy, daughter of Mr. Merle
Kennedy of Butler, Pennsylvania.
Reverend and Mrs . Ferris are the parents of one child; Sonya Michelle,
two and a half.
The Reverend Ferris has been assigned to Newburg United Methodist
Church in Livonia, Michigan, as Associate Minister by Bishop Ammons
for the coming year.
