FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE:
Rev. T. K. Foo, Minister of the Henderson-Chapin Unit e d
Methodist Churches, was elected to Elder's Orders and rece ived
as a Full Member of The Detroit Annual Confere nce of The United
Methodist Church, on Wednesday afternoon , June 5th, as the 133rd
consecutive annual session of the Confe rence began in Dawson
Aud itorium on the Campus of Adrian Coll ege , Adr i an , Michigan.
On Wednesday evening , he was ordained an Elder in the United
Methodist Church by Bishop Dwight E. Loder , Resident Bi shop of
The Michigan Area of The United Meth odist Church.
Son of Madam Soo-Lin Lee of Perak,

Malaysia, The Rev.
Mr. Foo was graduated from Anglo-Chinese High School in Ipoh
w.

Malaysia in 1 959.
He received a Th . Bo degree from Trinity Theological College
at Singapore in 1 967 ; and a M. Th . degree from Perkins School of
Theology at Da llas, Texas in 1972.

Mrs. Foo, is the former Miss Kim-Ger Ong of Penang, Malaysia.
Before coming to this country Rev. Foo served as Minister at
The Wesley Church in Kuala Lampur and Wesley Church at Serembay,
both in Malaysia.
Rev. Mr. Foo will continue to serve in his present position
by -appointment by Bishop Loder.

Tat Khean Foo
T.K. started his full time Christian ministry in West Malaysia upon his graduation from Trinity
Theological College, Singapore. Ordained as a Deacon in the then Singapore-Malaysia Annual
Conference in 1967, T.K, served as an associate pastor in Kuala Lumpur Wesley Methodist Church from
1967-1969. Then he served as senior pastor at Seremban Wesley Methodist Church in 1970 prior to his
coming to the States to do graduate work at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas.
Born and raised in a non-Christian family, it wasn't until his teens before T.K. accepted Christ as
his personal Lord and Savior because of missionary influence through the Methodist mission schools in
the 50s.
Upon completion of his graduate work in 1972 at Perkins, T.K. served as a summer resort minister
in Grayling, Michigan. There he married his wife, Kim Gek, whom he met at Trinity Theological
College, Singapore.
T.K.'s first appointment was at Henderson/Chapin (1972-1976), two farming communities.
Through their patience they began the nurturing process of T.K. 's ministry in this "big and different
land". For the next fourteen years he served at Waterford, Trinity (1976-1990), where the fine and
loving people taught and trained him to be the pastor he is. Durin$ his next six years at Walled Lake
(1990-1996), the people challenged and helped him to continue to grow as a pastor. These last six
years at Mt. Olivet, Dearborn (1996-2002), have been full of learning as the people have "propelled"
his ministry into the twenty-first century!! A total of thirty wonderful years of service assisted by his
wife, Kim, without whose assistance his ministry would not have been so meaningful and fulfilling.
A personal note: I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank God for God's grace,
to our Detroit Conference of the United Methodist Church for the opportunity of service, and to all the
many members and friends of the different churches who have provided me with the joy and the
privilege of being their pastor and to be in ministry with them.
There is still much to be done for God's kingdom. I am looking forward to continuing this ventme
in a different capacity as we retire and make om home in Dearborn, Michigan.
