AUTOBIOGRAPHY: I was born in Toro nt o.

Wilmo t Forsyth , ha vin g four brothers and
three sisters .
My schoolin g w,Js in Toronto. and graduated
from Emmanue l College . Kitchener-Waterloo,
Queens University. Kingston, and Garrett Th e ologica I Semi n.:tr y.
The fir st pastorate was in Hamilton. Ontario.
where I start ed a new church with nin e present
the fi rst Sunday and it grew rapid ly.
Then moving to the blue mountain area of
Collingwood serving at Wasaga Beach, then to
Creernore .
During World War II eve ryone assisted the
English ch ildren pla ced in homes becduse of
the bombing of England . The suffe ring an d depri vat ion of the wo rld made me
realize as a young person, that th e re must be a b e tter way.
I met Beverley at a chu rch servi ce in To ro nto and we were married May 1952. We
have t hree chi ldren Di ane, larry a nd Cynthia, three g rand c hildren Elizabeth,
Matthew and Ciar ra.
M y ordination took p lace in Toronto and I became an Elder in the Uni ted Methodi st
Church in 1968 under Bishop Dwight Loder.
It was th rough the influ ence of Harold Brown a Methodist Mini ster in Detroi t who
invi ted me to visi t him for three da ys that I met Bishop Marsh all Reed and Reverend
Merton Stevens a Di stri ct Superintendent. It was through the ir persistency and
encou ragement that I left the pa stora te in Canada and came to the United States to
become a United Methodi st Minister.
In servin g the loca l c hurc h , there have been ups and downs, but no regrets to m y call
in to the ministry for m y love of othe rs has been the cen te r o f my life.
Ten yea rs I ha ve se rved at Newburg Uni ted Methodist Chu rch. It has been an honor
and privilege fo r they are my friends.
I give much cred it to lleverley who has stood by me and has been a tremc nuou s help
in assisting in God 's service, standing by me unselfi shl y during good times .Jnd bad.
contributing so much wit h her talents and love. My three children I owe a d ebt of
gratitud e and love, for it isn ' t easy o n them moving from church to church, leavi n g
the ir friends behind.
My interests and hobbies have been carpentry, wood working, tra veling, computers.
We look forward to our own condominium and li ving in Plymouth Michigan,
sur ro unde d by our fri ends.

TESTIMONIAL: My fri cmhhip with Roy Forsyth came together in 1966 like two
streams lllm b ling d ow n mountain h e igh ts to merge into a s ingle ri ve r. Our r c l igio u ~
heritage p.~r.JIIel ed each o the r until geogr;:phy and Provid ence brought us together,
he serving the Ki ley Center Charge nnd I lmlar. City. It took on ly o n e con ta c t to
rea lize th.l t we sh.~rcd a spiritual bonding of .1nguage and faith. Time has only
matu red this friendship.

i
I will alw.1y ~ be gr.1tciul to Ro y for h.nmg a major role in ~ .Ji v.1ging my ministry.

Ever y c hurc h Roy p.lStorcd IVJS better o rr stati stically and spi ritu a ll y when he left.
lleginning w ith .1 n iniant church in Hamilton. Ontario to Newburg in livonia , each
c h urch ~ howed signifi ca nt g.1in~. God h as honored hi s mini~try b ecause he a l way~
tried to lift up Jesus Christ as l oru anu Saviour.
lleyond s t.lli ~ tics is this man of faith. I wou lu like you as fri e nds to have a n insig ht into
hi s lift•. Con siuer the fo ll owin g feature s that God ha s seen fit to bless His church with
using the gre.ll ~ki ll s. talent and reJI fait h which Roy showed in his comm itme nt to
mini str y.
A~ide from hi s love of wife and family. h e had a deep ~ense o f God 's call to minist ry.
To that e nd he was willing to wo rk end lessly and uo w hat had to b e tlonc. Severe
health proble ms woultl re qui re him to work a t a s lower pace th.111 h e had ever
known . but it w o uld get done neverthe less. 13ec,wsc it wa~ God\ work, he n eve r
co mpl.1in ed about th e ma n y tasks that wen t with ministry.

Roy's skill in cou n se ling shone forth w ith his love of people. h e Wii S a p e ople pastor
and ministercu to people. Their needs a nd interests had to be addressed first. When
they came to him wit h th eir problems. the)' fo und a patient li stener. Th e confidence
he gained with hi s people was unbounde d . I am a receip t of numerous le tters of
those who carro ber.1tc thi s fact. In the ir crises they found a compassionate friend .
The usc o f humor m.1de Roy a one of a kind Pastor in dealing with difficult situations
and occasions in h b mini stry. He uniq ue ly combined serious ite m s with humor. He
had a kn ack of disarming opposing views wi th a joke or a humorous re mark . Instead
o f having an o p ponent, they found th ey had a friend who wou ld respect them.
When confined to a hospital bed fo llowi ng life-threatening s urgeries, nur ses
frequented the room, ·because of hi s gracious manner, his jokes, and hi s upbeat
spi rit.
leadership w.1s innate in Roy, who co uld take th e c hallenge in a give n situati o n on a
moments n o tice and be the leader that was expecteu a nd no more so th.lll in h is
passion to lead people tu Jesus C hrist. Thi s was his ultimate goal in ministry. He knew
th.ll real life began when people surrend ered themselves to Jesus Christ. Apart from
Chri~ t as Lord they had spiritual emptiness. With an ev<~ngclistic h ea rt he proclaimed
C hrbt to hi s people. As a result, over the past ten yea rs he "recruited" over seven
hundred p eople for the church, each o ne kn owing what spi ritual re birth m e ant. He
impre ssed what being a Christia n Di sciple in volved du ring the m embership training
classes h e directed.
Roy was a low prof iled person who did so many thing ~ we ll in the community, from
the poor to the rich, the illiterate to the well educated. Wherever there was a need
Roy was a wi lling worker. From the dru g .111d ,1ddi c ted .dcoholic to the executi ves of
co mpanies, l<oy w.1 s a goo d li ~ tener . Whatever c hurc h he wa s appoin ted to. he took
it as a c ha llenge from God and n ot a~ a step higher. "Position and power," he o ft e n
~ .1id, "w a~ for the birds." Wheeling and deali ng was not hi s suit (luke 22:26).
Accu mul atin g a lengthy li s t of board s and agencies to which his name could be
.1ttac hcd wa s of ve ry littl e intere st, a lthough h e se rve d on boards ilnd he ,J iways
respected th ose who loved d oi ng this aspect of Gotl's work . Hi s chief con cern was to
be in the ~arish whe~e h e could mini ster to the people in Christ's n.une. Many will
enter God's c te rn.1l kmgdom .md be numbered among the redeemed bec.w~e of hi s
