PEOPLE
THE REV. W. HERBERT and
OLIVE MAE GLENN will be honored at a retirement reception on
Sunday, June 14, at the Central
UMC in Waterford. A short program will begin at 4 p.m. in the
sanctuary, followed by the reception in the fellowship hall. All
friends and former parishioners
of the Glenns are invited to attend. Waterford Central is located
at 3882 Highland Road (M-59)
west of Pontiac.
CYNTHIA RENEE MORSE will
graduate from Traverse City Public high School on June 13. She
is the daughter of the Rev. John
and Darlene Morse. Cynthia has
been accepted at Lake Superior
State University at Sault Saint
Marie, Mich. Her entry course of
study is pre-med.

THE REV. JAMES ("BING")
CROSBY, a retired member of
the West Michigan Conference,
died June 1 at Beaumont
Hospital , Royal Oak. A memorial
service was held June 6 at Birmingham First UMC. Condolences
may be sent to his widow, Wanda Crosby, at 4229 Buckingham
Rd., Birmingham, Ml 48073. A

THE REV . SAMUEL H.
EVANS, 80, of Chelsea, died
May 8 at Chelsea Retirement
Community. He and his wife
Louise had lived there since
1984. Sam was a retired member
of the West Michigan and Detroit
conferences. He was born July 3,
1911, in Philadelphia, Pa., the
son of Samuel and Catherine
(McGhie) Evans. Graduating from ·
Asbury College in 1934, he
received his divinity degree from
Asbury Theological Seminary in
1935. He received a master's
degree from Drew Theology
Seminary in 1939. Before coming
to Michigan, he served UM churches in the Troy, New York, Annual Conference. He served

churches here in Flint, Midland,
and Pigeon. He retired as associate pastor of the Central UMC,
Lansing, in 1977. He leaves his
wife Louise, whom he married on
Dec. 29, 1935, in Macon, Ga.; a
son, Oliver H. Evans of
Kalamazoo; a daughter, Hewlitte
Edwards of Holly; and four children. Funeral services were held
May 11 in the Chelsea Retirement Community chapel. The
Rev. James Simmons, chaplain,
and the Rev. Jerry Parker of First
UMC, Chelsea, presided. Condo-·
lences may be sent to Mrs.
Louise Evans, 725 W. Middle St.,
Apt. 25, Chelsea, Ml 48118.

MRS. SARAH ROSE WHITE
PIGEON SPRAGUE, 64, wife of
the Rev. Joseph Sprague of the
West Michigan Conference, died
Apr. 20. She was born Jan. 3,
1928 and married Joseph on July 27, 1947. Sarah was a gradu- .
ate of Caledonia High School and
Mid-Community College at Harrison, Mich. She leaves her 11
children, seven sons: George A.
Sprague, Lewis Sprague and wife
Connie, Joseph Sprague, Jr.
Matthew V. Sprague and wife
Sandra, Henry S. Sprague and
wife Teresa, Randall L. Sprague,
Timothy L. Sprague, all of Mt.
Pleasant; four daughters, Linda
R. Shomin and husband Paul of
Mt. Pleasant, Alberta J. Popma
and husband Daniel of Grandville, Joanne Peters and Husband Bob of Walpole Island, Canada, Marian L. Falcon and husband Andy of Wyoming; 21
grandchildren; one greatgranddaughter; and many other
relatives. Sarah was a member of
the Saginaw Chippewa Indian
Tribe of Michigan and of
Pawating Magedwin UMC.
Funeral services were held Apr.
23. Memorial contributions may
