Rev. Arthur Beedon
EV. ARTHUR BEEDON, for 35
years a minister in the Detroit
Conference, died Tuesday m orning,
March 11, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital
in Ann Arbor, where he h ad been rushed
following a cerebral hemorrhage the
day before. He had been in ill health for
many year s, and had r etired from the
minis try in 1937, making his home with
his daughter, Mrs. Andrew W. Woodward, of Clinton.
Born in Lexington, Mich., on April !l,
1876, Mr. Beedon would have been 71
next month. He was educat ed in th e
grade s chools of Forester Township in
Sanilac County where he made his h ome
wit h his parents, J ohn and Loui sa Beedon , on the f a mily farm one mile west
of F orester. H e ta ught a country school
for one year, then entered Farg o Academy, F a rgo, -N. Dak., for a brief train- 1
ing. R eturning to Sanilac County, he
entered the studies for the mini stry,
being assigned to h is first char ge at
Shabbona, Tuscola County, in 1901.
He was married on Dec. 25, 1901, to
Miss Keturah May Weyeneth, of Richmondville, Sanilac County. They were
t he pare nts of eight children, seven of
whom su rvive. They are: Franc is W., of
Mu skegon , Ernes t G., of Port Huron ,
Kenneth E ., of Chicago, Ill., Clinton L.,
of Santa Ana, Calif. Mrs. Andrew D.
Woodward of Cli nton, Mrs . George Donning of Wyandotte, a nd Mrs. Carl
Thunder, of Marshall. There are 18
grandchildren. Mrs . Beedon died in 1918
while Mr. Beedon was located a t Carsonville.
Orda ined deacon in 1909 a nd elde r in
1911, Mr. Beedon se rved pas tora tes pri01·
to that at Shabbona, Grant, P eck, Foreste r, and Deford, and f ollowin g that
time in Otisville, Romul us, Carsonville,
Carle ton , Rose City, Munith , Willis,
Painesdale, Pickford, and North Detroit.
The loss of Mrs . Beedon added the
problems of the fami ly t o his ministerial
la bors fo r more t han the usual duty of
the minis ter.
Funeral services were conducted at
the Fores ter Church on Friday, March
14, by Rev. Gordon Wood, of Bay City,
a friend of the family from the days of
Mr . Beedon's pas torate in Carsonville
befo re Mr. Wood en tered the ministry.
Pallbearers were six grandsons, Francis
Jr. a nd Charles Beedon, Kenneth and
H a r r y Woodwa rd, and Bruce and J a mes
Donning. Burial was bes ide the body
of Mrs. Beedon in the Forester cemetery
along the shore of Lake Huron which
t hey had both known so well and loved
so long.
Mr. Wood's words of comfort were
centered about those of Paul who h ad
foug ht th e good f ight, finis hed the
com·s e, a nd kep t the faith.
Ladies of the church in Forester, in
t heir desire to assist t he fam ily , served
dinne r to more tha n 60 r ela tives and
f riend s who had gathered from some
dis ta nces to pay t heir r espect s to t heir
