RICHARD L. BEEMER
The youngest of two sons born to Harold and Otha Beemer in Owosso, Michigan, on
January 6 , 1928. On April 1, 1939, my family moved to my grandparents' farm at Henderson,
Michigan, where I attended the same rural school my mother had attended. After graduation from
Owosso High School in 1946, I started working the farm at Henderson. In October of 1956 my
wife, Carol, and I were married and I continued to manage the dairy farm until I received the call
to the ministry.
In June of 1960 I enrolled in Asbury College at Wilmore, Kentucky. I graduated from
college in 1963 and started Asbury Seminary that fall. My last year of seminary I transferred to
Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating in June of 1966 and received my
first appointment at the Detroit Annual Conference.
Appointments include: 1966 Webberville-Bell Oak; 1968 Dundee; 1975 Pickford; and
1981 Montrose.
For the past 27 years I have had the opportunity to serve churches in both the upper and
lower peninsulas, thankful to all the people who shared with me the challenges of ministry.
I am thankful to my wife, Carol, and our two children, Susan and Kevin, who shared and
supported me in my ministry. We now look forward to moving back to the farm at Henderson
in our retirement.
Richard
and
Car~
Beemer, 27 years; Montro~~
I
UMC: Carol noted that the time of
their retirement coincided with
her "spiritual birthday," the anniversary of the day when she accepted Jesus Christ at 11-yearsold. Richard, remembered a conversation with his D.S. about an
appointment: "Bob Ward said,
'We have an appointment we'd
like you to consider. Pickford.'
'Where is that? ' I asked. ~ust over
the bridge,' he said . 'What
bridge?' I asked. But I thank every
congregation - each of them
taught me something." Richard,
who first heard the call to ministry while working in a dairy barn,
will move back to the family farm
in retirement.

Carole Beemer
Carole Beemer, widow of Richard L. Beemer is having surgery today, Tuesday,
April 10, 1999 at Ingham Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan. She went to
her regular annual checkup and tests found a "benign" mass in one of the
auricles of her heart, making a problem for her breathing and increasing her
heart rate. That mass is being removed today. I am sure she will appreciate
the prayers of her friends.
