FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE:
Rev. Bruce Lee Billing, student at United Theology Seminary
in Dayton, Ohio, was elected to Deacon's Orders and received as

a Probationary member of The Detroit Annual Conference of The
United Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon, June 5th, as the
133nd consecutive annual session began in Dawson Auditorium on
the campus of Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.
On Wednesday evening, he was ordained a Deacon in the United
Methodist Church by Bishop Dwight E. Loder, Resident Bishop
of The Michigan Area of The United Methodist Church.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Billing of Flat Rock, Michigan,
Rev. Billing was graduated from the Flat Rock High School in
Flat Rock,Michigan in 1969 .

He received a B. A. degree from Michigan State University
at East Lansing , Mich i gan in 1973 ; and is presently enrolled as
a student at United Theological Seminary in Dayton , Ohio .
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference
of The First United Methodist Church of Flatrock , Michigan,
Rev. Billing is pursuing the course of study required for full
membership in the Detroit Annual Conference.
Mrs. Billing, the former Miss Linda L. Jackson , is the daughter
of Mr . and Mrs. Thomas Jackson of Flat Rock, Michigan .
Rev. Billing has been appointed to attend school by Bishop
Loder for the coming year .

The Rev. Bruce L. B1ll1_llilwas elected to Elder's Orders, and received as

a Full Member of the Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church,
on Wednesday afternoon, June 7, as the 137th consecutive annual session of the
Conference began in Dawson Aud itorium on the campus of Adrian College,
Adrian, Michigan.
On Friday evening, June 9, he was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist
Church by Bishop Edsel A. Ammons, Resident Bishop of the Michigan Area of the
United Methodist Church.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Billing of Flat Rock, Michtgan , the Rev.
Billing was graduated from Plat Rock High School in Plat Rock. He received a B. A.
degree from Michigan State University at East Lansing in 1973, and a M. Div.
degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, in 1977.
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference of Plat Rock
United Methodist Church , in 1974, Rev. Billing was elected to Deacon's Orders
by the Detroit Annual Conference in June, 1974 and was received as a Probationary
Member in the Detroit Conference at that time. Elder's Orders and Reception into
Full Membership in an Annual Conference are the final steps into the Ministry of

of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs . Billing, is the former Miss Linda L. Jackson, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Jackson of Flat Rock.
The Rev. Billing has been assigned to Otisville , Otter Lake, .west Forest
United Methodist Churches on the Flint District as Minister by Bishop Ammons
for the coming year.

A former Flat Rock resident and a
member of the local United Methodist
Church, Rev . Bruce B1lling, received a
<Feg'ree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, in June . He was
honored at an open house graduation
reception, May 15, at the church, hosted
by the pastor, Rev . Ronald D. Carter, and
Betty. Mrs . Robert Darby, assisted by
June Hillyer, UMW president, Betty
Tabor and Ethel Short, was in charge _of
arrangements .

Mr. Billing and his wife, Linda, a
special education teacher, are now
serving the Otisville, West Forest and
Otter Lake Charge on the Flint District .
Parents of the new pastor are Mr. and
Mrs . Herbert Billing.
In the 150-year history of the Flat Rock
ch.urch. this is the first young man to
enter the United Methodist ministry .
Another young man, Bill Sturgeon, who
was raised in the church, was ordained a
Baptist minister on june 18. He'is the son
of Mrs . Donald Sturgeon of Flat Rock and
the late Mr. Stur eon .
