FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 1 PLEASE:
Rev. Joseph Bistayi, Associate Minister of Ypsilanti First
United Methodist Church, was elected to Elder•s Orders and
received as a Full Member of The Detroit Annual Conference of
The United Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon, June 6th, as
the 132nd consecutive annual session began in Dawson Auditorium
on the campus of Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.
On Wednesday evening, he was ordained an Elder in the United
Methodist Church by Bishop Dwight E. Loder, Resident Bishop of
The Michigan Area of The United Methodist Church.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Bistayi of Toledo Ohio, Rev.
Bistayi was graduated from Waite High School in Toledo Ohio.
He received a BA in Sociology degree from Adrian College in
Adrian Michigan in 1969; and a Master•s of Divinity degree from
Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois in 1973.
Recommended for a License to Preach by the Charge Conference
of The Adrian United Methodist Church , in 1970, Rev. Bistayi was

elected to Deacon•s Orders by the Detroit Annual Conference in 1970
and was received as a Probationary Member in the Detroit Conference
also in 1970. Elder•s Orders and reception into Full Membership in
an Annual Conference are the final steps into the Ministry of The
United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Bistayi, is the former Miss Cheryl Stroder, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene B. Stroder of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Rev. and Mrs. Bistayi are the parents of one child, Matthew,
eighteen months.
Before appointment to his present position, Rev. Bistayi
served as Associate Minister of the First United Methodist Church
in Hobart, Indiana.
Rev. Bistayi has been reappointed to the Ypsilanti First
United Methodist Church by Bishop Loder for the coming year.
