Blackmore was born in a log ho se

on his father's farm in Imlay township, Lapeer
County, Michi gan, on Feb. 22nd, 18?3.
His father was a

Civil war veteran, having

served at Gettysburg.
Joseph attended t he local district school,
Imlay City High Schoo l and later was a gradua te
of the Moody Bible Institute of Ch ipago.

He

spent f our y ears teach ing in the schools of Fap e er County .

He was a mason by trade an d spent

fifteen years building stone houses, churches
bridges , anc i n later y ears did

parsonage

and church repair work in l as ting cement and stone ;
nearly every charge where he served showi ng some
of h is handiwork.
Mr. Bl ackmore was converted while in
the early twenties duri ng the pas tora te of the
late Rev. B.F. l ew is, and joine d the Ar cadia M. E.
church near his home, which was the out appointmen t of the I mlay City charge.
During the pas t orate of the Re v. D. D. Magee
(now r e tired) h e felt the call t o the ministry
an d

ent e re d the

Mo ody Bible Institute in Chicago

to prep a re f or h is life wor k.

He was 38 years
