Lloyd M. Blakely
EV. Lloyd M. Blakely, 77, r etired
member of the Detroit Conference,
died Sunday, May 15, at the Dearborn
Medical Centre in Dearborn, Michigan.
He had been hospitalized for ten days,
following a series of heart attacks.
He was born August 9, 1882, at Wattsburg, Pennsylvania. Before entering the
minis try, he worked as Field Representative of the Y.M.C.A. He was married
to Maud Jones in Leamington, Ontario,
Canada, on March 29, 1911. They have
one daughter, Elsaleen, who is a teacher and counselor at Hazel Park High
School.
Mr. Blakely served in the Detroit Conference from 1914 to 1953. The churches
he s erved were : Calumet and Grace,
Jefferson Avenue, Epworth, and Asbury
Churches, in Detroit; Immanuel Church
in East Detroit; Corunna; and then
Bethlehem Church, Flint, from 1944
until his r etirement in 1953. In 1954 he
was engaged as minister of visitation in
the First Methodist Church of St. Clair
Shores, assisting Rev. Roland Brook:;.
Mr. Blakely was active in every phase
of the church work, teaching young
adults in a Sunday school class of !l7
members; conducting a Bible s tudy for
adults on Sunday evening, preceding the
wors hip service; and helping with vi sitation team s.
He served as vice-president and president of Simpson Park Camp at Romeo;
was president of the Michigan Holiness
Association; treas urer of the National
Holiness Association; and pt·esident of
Faith Missionary Band.
Funeral services were conducted at
Fit·s t Methodist Church at St. Cla it·
Shores, Tuesday, May 17. Officiating
were Bishop Marshall R. Reed, Dr. E. K.
Seymour, Dr. Gerald Jones, a nephew of
Mrs. Blakely, of Fort Wayne, Indiana;
a nd the pastor, Mr. Brooks. Interment
was in Leam ington, Ontario, Canada.
