The Freedom Foundation
Award was presented' to Dr.
Bodine by President Eisenhower for his sermon, "I Protest." He was the first Michigan clergyman to preach at
the dawn service at the State
Fa i l1groUJlds.
Dr. Bodine .was a Dist'lnguished Member of the Detroit
Conference of the U n it e d
Methodist Church, past president of the Wranglers, a member of Palestine Lodge No. 357
F&AM, Ki:ng Cyrus Chapter
No. 133 Royal Arch Masons,
Detroit Commandery No. 1
Knights Templar and tlhe Detroit Athletic Club.
Surviving are hiS' wife, Lyla;
two daughters, Mrs. Robert
Willcutt and Mrs. Monty Weinberger, and f 1 v e grandchlldren.

worship ho ur at Metropolitan Church on Sun day, December 9. Dr. Bodine was born in
Springfield, Misso uri, and we nt to Detroit
from Peoria, Ill., where he had served as pastor
of the Firs t United Me thodist Ch urch for 11
years. Previous ly he had served pastorates at
Dr. Robert
H. Bodine
Oa k Grove Church in Kansas City, Mo., and
United Me thodist churc hes in Sp ringfie ld,
Mo., Ca rthage, Mo., and l ebanon, Mo. A docto r o f divinity, Dr. Bodine also held the degree
o f do c tor o f lite rat ure. He did advance
graduate study at Garrett Biblica l Institute,
No rthweste rn University and also Princeton
University. The Freedom Foundation Award
