Bishop shares 'God-print for life'
with new ministers of Conf.
ERIK ALSGAARD
MCA Correspondent

ADRIAN (MCA)- " You are a city set on
a hill which cannot be hid!" With these
words Michigan Area Bishop, Judy Craig,
admonished the newest ordinands and
diaconal ministers of the Conference to be
a visible representation of Christ.
In her sermon from Matthew 5:1-16,
"Visible Indeed," Bishop Craig addressed
the 11 deacons, 14 elders, and two
diaconal ministers, saying that we understand some to be called from among the
wider body of all baptized Christians for
special service and visibility. " What you do
cannot be put under a bushel. You are intended to give light to the household of
faith and beyond. What others see in you ,"
she stressed, " is the way they learn of
God."
Craig continued, " Does that seem a
burden?" She reminded the persons present in Dawson Auditorium that this
teaching comes "at the conclusion of
another set of sayings, the beatitudes."
She went on to note that " these describe
how it already is for the follower of the
God-print of life. Therefore, this is not a
burden so much as a declaration of life
abundant when life is formed in these
qualities. Not burden . . . promise."
However, the bishop warned, " intending
and living out get tugged apart with time
and reality." She cautioned the ordinands
and diaconates, as well as the other
ministers making up the congregation , that
the temptations of self-service, "career
planning" and "other enticements" await
us as we seek to convince the world for
Christ. "Oh, please watch out for this
beguiling, very human tendency to want
to define for yourself the nature of the
cross and the place to which you would
carry it," she pleaded .
Assisting in the service were area assistant Dr. Robert Horton, conference
secretary, Jane Schairer, and the seven
district superintendents of the D-etroit Con- .
terence. The time was punctuated by
many photos, tremendous hugs, and loud
pats on the back, which brought sounds
of rejoicing from family, friends, and others
in attendance.
The newly ordained and consecrated
persons concluded the nearly two-hour
celebration by serving communion . Visible indeed!
