Reverend Sa umel T. Bottrell was born in St.
Ive s, Cornwell , Engla nd Feb. 11, 1887. Parents:
Edwin Bottrell and Mary Trevorrow. Ca me to IronMountain, Michigan from Engla nd April 14, 1914 .
He married Lydia Mary Jenkins Sept. 1916.
His first appointment was Republic, Mich.
in Sept.

Garrett Bibical Inst. Evanston, Ill. Graduated
June 1920 and took the charge of Ironwood (Newport)
Mich.

La st charge was Hemlock, March

7, 1961. He

was 70 years of· age.
His greatest achievement was the building
and decication of a brick church at La ke Fenton,
free of debt, after the white fra me church was
struck by lightning a nd burned to the ground.
While preaching at Republic he served the
little village of Witch Lake 10 miles away. It took
about 24 hours to make the trip, most of 19 spent
in waiting for trains.

Mr. Bottrell attended Garr ett Biblical
Ins ti tute in 1918 a nd was ordained in
the Detroit Confer ence in 1920 s erving
churches in I ron Mount ain, Ir onwood,
New port, Newberry, Ma nis tique, Kochville and Hemlock. Upon ret iremen t in

1957 he made his hom e in Hemlock

Survivors besides his wife are two
sons , Wilbur at home and Emerson of
Howell ; and l\vo g m ndchi ldren.
T he serv ice was held in the Hemlock
chu rch. Wanen P ettis , a minis terial
s tudent , t he r esul t of Mr. Bottr ell's infl uence, deli vered t he sermon. H e was
assis ted by Rev. Andrew Michelson,
pnstor, a nd Hev. H erber t Bt·ubaket·, district s up er intendent.

Rev. J. Harold W allis of Fi rst Church
