The Rev. John J. Britt was e lected to Deacon' s Orders, and
received as a Probationary member of the Detroit Annual Conference
of the United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 1, as the 14lst
consecutive annual session began in Daws on Auditorium on the
campus of Adrian College , Adrian, Michigan.

JOHN J. BRITT TO PREACH
Sunday, June 6, 1982,9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
The Pastor Parish Committee of St. Paul's Church is pleased to announce the
ordination of John J. Britt, June 5, 1982, Adrian Chapel. John is a member of
our congregation . Effective June 10, he will assume his responsibilities as
Associate Minister at First Church, Warren.
John will preach at both worship services on Sunday, June 6: a reception will
be held in Friendship Hall, 10:00 a.m.
Rev. Britt was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and attended public schools
in So uth Milwaukee, Wisconsin . In 1968 he moved with his family to Santa
Barbara, California where he was active in St. Mark's Church. His family, in
1973, moved to Fairfax, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C., where John
fini shed high school at W.T. Woodson. Active in St. George's Church, he
played the bass guitar for their production of Godspell, which was performed
in local c hurches.
After John's family moved to Rochester, Michigan in 1974, he enrolled in
Oakland University and graduated with a B.A. in psychology. While a student,
he worked for the un iversity's Public Safety Department. In 1974 he and his
fam ily, John, Peggy and Brother Jim, joined St. Pau l's. Rev. Britt was then acti ve ly involved in UMYF and participated in the Colorado and Tennessee
worktrip s.
After graduation from Oakland Un iversity in 1978, John enrolled in Asbury
Theology Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky. On January 31, 1981 , John and Janine
Ann Kuehn were married at Clark Chapel, Wilmore United Methodist Church .
Sunday, May 23, John graduated from the seminary with a Master of Divinity
degree, including a major in Christian Education . While a student he also served at th e Mt. Zion Church, Clark County, Kentucky, in the capacity of Student
Intern.
On June 5, John J. Britt received hi s Deacon 's Orders. This is one of the major
steps which will culminate in full ordination as an Elder in the United
Methodist Church.
We welcome Rev. and Mrs. Britt home. Plan now to attend either of the worsh ip services and the special reception in their honor.
