Brooks, minister of the Bancroft United
Methodist Church of Bancroft, Mich., was received into Full
Membership of the United Methodist Church and ordained an
Elder of the Church by Bishop Dwight E. Loder during the 130th
Detroit Annual Conference.
The Conference was held at Adrian
College in Adrian, Mich. June 8-12.
Mr. Brooks graduated from American High School of Chicago,
Ill. in 1957.
He received his A.B. degree from Centra l
Michigan University of Mt. Pleasant in 1966 and his M.Div. degree
from Garrett Theolo gical Seminar y o f Evanston, Ill. in 1971.
Rev. Brooks is married to the former Nancy La Berge , daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth La Berge of Bay City.

Parish by Bishop Loder for the corning year.

The Life and Times of a Methodist Pastor
I am eternally grateful to Jesus Christ for calling me to the high privilege of being a preacher,
teacher and pastor in the United Methodist Church. I have pastored churches in a variety of
environments. In 40 years I have had the privilege of shepherding churches in the Upper Peninsula
with as few as 5 members to churches with hundreds of members.
I've served many single-point churches as pastor and I've also served churches in "cooperative
ministries." While most churches were located in town and country, I've also had the privilege of
serving larger membership churches in areas such as the West Side of Saginaw noted for its poverty.
While most of my experience has been as a pastor to smaller churches, I've had opportunity to
serve on the Detroit Conference Staff as a Specialist in Town and Country ministries.
Would I do it over again if I could? You bet I would, if the need was there. But I'm thankful that I
don't have to 'do it over again.' As I look at Michigan Methodism, I see bright, talented men and women
anxious for it to be their time with God and with the church called Methodist. I bid them well and
assure them they will be in my prayers as long as God gives me breath, As I enter the retired status I
would like to be remembered as a pastor who preached Christ and Him crucified! That's the only
gospel worth the telling!
