FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE:
The Reverend R. Melvin Vostry was elected to Elder's Orders and received as
a Full Member of the Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church on
Wednesday afternoon, June 6, as the 138th Consecutive Annual Session of the Conference began in Dawson Auditorium on the campus of Adrian College.
On Friday evening, June 8, he was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist
Church by Bishop Leroy C. Hodapp, Resident Bishop of the Illinois Area, presiding
for Bishop Edsel A. Ammons.
The son of Mr. and .Mrs. Robert Vostry of Clio, Michigan, Rev. Vostry was graduated from Mt. Morris High School.
l-Ie received a B.S. degree from Central Michigan
University at Mt. Pleasant and a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological
Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky in 1977.
Elder's Orders and Reception into Full Membership 1n an Annual Conference are th
the final steps into the ministry of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Vostry is the former Debra Mw1dell
of Kenai, Alaska.
Rev. Vostry is serving with the Board of Global Ministries in North Star, Alaska
as minister of the North Star United Methodist Church.
