LETTER to the Advocate from lV[rs.
Sarah S. Carter, dated J anuary 18,
informs us of the death of her husband,
R ev. George W. Carter, on J anuary 4,
1932, at P erry, Oklahoma, where they had
lived since 1904. He had been a member
of the Detroit Conference for fo rty-eight
years.
George vV. Carter was born in New
Hampshire in 1846. Concerning his early
life the Advocate has no information, or
when he came to Michigan. H e entered
the Christian ministry and became a
preacher and pastor in the Methodist
Protestant Church, but how long he
served there we are n ot told.
In 1884 B rother Carter was admitted to
the Detroit Conference on his credentials
from the Methodist Protestant Church.
He served in the effective ranks in this
Conference for eleven years. His appointm en ts were: F orester, 1884-5; Dryden, .
1886-7; Lexington, 1888; Richmo,nd, 188990; Millington, 1891-93; Reese, 1894. In
1895 he took the retired relation. He resided with his family a t Reese until 1904,
when th ey removed to Perry, Okla., which
was thenceforth their home.
Brother Carter lived to be eighty-five
y:ears of age. He leaves a wife, a brother, ·
and several nieces and nephews.
