Rev. Lloyd Elmer Christler, a native of Jenison, Michigan,
and now minister of the Oak Grove and Cohoctah Churches, will be
r eceived into .r·ull Membership in the Detroit Annual Conference
of The Me thodist Church on Saturday morning, June 16, at
On Sunday afternoon, June 17,
Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.
he will be ordained an Elder in TheMe thodist Church by Bishop
Ma rshall R. Reed.
Rev. Christler received an A.B. degree from Ma rion college
in Marion, Indiana, in 1951; the B.D. degree from Asbury
Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky, in 1954, and has
completed additional work at Garre tt Theological Seminary,
Evanston, Illinois.
In addition to Oak Grove and Cohoctah, Rev. Christler served
as minister of the Taswell, Indiana, Methodist Church, and for
five years as minister of the Wa ldron and Grand Rapids Churches
of the Michi gan Confe r ence of the Wes leyan Me thodist Church.
Mrs. Christler is the former Bet t y Hicks.
Her father,
the Rev . Mr. Paul Hicks, is minister of the Society of .rri ends
in Indiana.
Rev. and Mrs. Christ l er are the parents of four chi ldren,
Kenneth
7, Stanl ey 5, Gayl e 2, and Bradley 11 months.

THE REV. LLOY E. CHRISTLEA, 63, died Sept. 30 at Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, Fla.
He was born July 2, 1929, in
Georgetown Twp ., Mich ., the son
of Elmer and Carrie (Timmerman)
Christler. On Aug. 8, 1952, he
I. Hicks in Marion,
married
Ind . She survives . He was ·
ordained min ister in 1952,
serving with
the Wesleyan
Church from
then until 1959.
He also served
with the UMCs
in Oak GroveCohoctah, Mich ., Vernon , Ontonagon Larger Parish, Port
Huron, Walled Lake and Saline,
from which he retired in 1992 due
to ill health. He was president of
MICAP and MADIF, a board
member of the Saline Area Social
Services , and served on many
boards in the Detroit Conference.
Besides his wife, he leaves three
sons: the Rev. Dr. Kenneth (Bonnie) Christler of Roscommon,
· Stanley Christler of Houghton
Lake, and · Bradley Christler of
Marysville; two daughters: Gayle
(Mike) Scott of Munising and
Dianne (Bob) Lane of Battle
Creek; three sisters; and many
other relatives . The funeral was
held at Saline UMC Oct. 5, with
Dr. Robert Horton, · Dr. Kenneth
Christler and the Rev . Paul
Donelson officiating . Memorial
