Burdette S. Clark, 70, of
9837 52nd Terrace North,
St. Petersburg Fla., formerly of Stratford, a retired clergyman, who died
Wednesday in St. Anthe>ny's Hospital in St. Petersburg, will take place Monday at 10 :30 a.m. in the
Stratford United Methodist
Church with the Rev. H.
Burnham Kirkland, pastor, officiating. Burial will
be in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven.
The Dennis and D'Arcy
Funeral Home, 2611 Main
Street, is in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Clark was born in
Bridgeport and graduated
frQm Stratford High
School in 1927. He received
his A.B. degree from Central Michigan College of
Education in 1945 and his
B.D. degree from Garrett
Biblical Institute in 1951.
He was ordained a deacon, in 1949 and . ~e~_eiv~
his full membership m tne
Michigan conference in
1950, being ordained as an
elder in 1951 by Bishop
Marshall R. Reed in Albion, Mich. He served the
Dowagiac First Methodist
Church in Michigan for
two and a half years. Prior
to that he had pastorates
in Centerville, North
Muskegon
and
The
Heights, all in Michigan.

pastor of the former Wesley Methodist Church, the
Westville Methodist
Church; New Haven, the
United Methodist Church,
Islip, N.Y. and churches in
Florida.

wife, Mrs. Alice W. Green

of St. Petersburg, Fla .,
and Mrs. Adelle C. Gunn of
Falls Church, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Mell of
Temecula, Calif., and
three grandchildren.

served as pastor of many Michigan Methodist churches, including Houghton Lake, N .
Muskegon, Dowagiac, Centerville, Nottawa,
Henderson and Chapin. In Detroit he served
the Messiah, Faith-Oak Park, and Jefferson
Ave. churches. He retired in 1975 from the
Detroit Annual Conference. Survi vors include his wife, Alice W.; two daughters,
Rosemary J. Gunther, St. P etersburg, and
Adelle C. Gunn, Falls C hurch , Va.; a sister,
Ruth C. Mell, Tem ecula, Calif. , and three
grandchildren. Funeral services were held at
Christ UMC, St. Petersburg, with Dr.
Willia m W. Roughton officia ting. Two
memorial funds have been established to help
young ministers, one at Garrett Seminary,

the late Rev. Burdette S. Cl ark, died Nov.
12, 1987, in the Hospice of Northern
Virginia at Ar lington after a massive

She graduated from high school in Anderson , IN, in 1923. She then graduated from
the Progressive Seri es Music College of
Washington University and taught at a
conservatory of music in St. · Louis for
several years . She also served as a
church organist there . She married the
Rev. Clark in Indianapolis on ~an : 1, 1942.
After serving in Michigan and Connecticut,
he transferred to the Detroit Conference
in 1964. They served many churches , including North Muskegon, Centreville,
Henderson and Chapin charge, Messiah
UMC , Detroit, and Faith UMC , Oak Park.
He retired from Jefferson Ave. UMC ,
Detroit in 1976. They moved to St.
Petersburg, FL. Rev. Clark died on Feb.
25, 1981 . Alice leaves daughters Adelle C.
Gunn and Rosemary J. Bird, and other
relatives. Funeral services were h~ld in
Alexandria, VA, on Nov. 16, 1987~$
