More than 300 friends and r elatives
gathered in the B u r to n Methodist
Church, on Sunday, October 24, to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of
the pas tor, Rev. J ames Cobb, and Mrs.
Cobb.
The couple were married in
Caseville in the fall of 1915 by Rev.
Edward F. Hildebrand.
Mr. Cobb was a school teacher in
H uron County for 13 years before he
entered the ministry in 1928. He was
ordained in 1940 and has since served in
Avoca, Jeddo, Hillman, Grace Bible
Church in Flint, Corunna, Columbiaville ,
Webberville a nd Owosso. Mr. Cobb retired in 1960 because of poor health,.
but has since accepted the pastorate of

Illness. Mr. Cobb was born in Kinde and
graduated from Ferris State College. He
was a school teacher for nineteen years
before entering the ministry in 1928. He
served the following churches of the Detroit Conference: Avoca, Jeddo, Hillman,
Flint Grace, Corunna, Columbiaville and
Webberville. After his retirement in 1960
he served as Owosso First Associate and
at Flint Burton. The Cobbs have ~ade
their home at 626 Lingle Ave., Owosso,
48867. He leaves his wife Caroline· two
daughters, Mrs. Norman White of He~der­
son, and Mrs. Gayle Flanne ry of Wheaton,
Ill.; fo ut· grandchildren ; two brothers,
Cha rles of Caseville, and John of Whittemore; and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline
Neuteboom of Fa lmouth, and Mrs. 0. J.
McNutt of Caseville. Memorial services
were held at the First United Methodist
Church, Owosso, with Rev. Ivan 0. Gonser and Rev. G. H. K ellermann Flint
District superintendent, officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso.

REV. AND MRS. JAMES COBB have
sold their residence in Florida, where
they spent the past year, and returned
to their home at 626 Lingle Ave., P.O. Box
673, Owosso, Michigan 48867. They will
be glad to welcome friends at this address.
Mr. Cobb is a retired member of the

The morning worship service, held in the
Webberville church, was shared by two
.•f-ormer pastors, Rev. Dwight Lawson and
Rev. James Cobb, both of Owosso. Mrs.
Susie Gerhardstein of Howell read a history of the church which is n ow more
than 80 years old.
A potluck dinner was served at noon
in the church basement under th e supervision of the WSCS. The afternoon was
spent r eminiscing with five form er pastors
r elating interesting experiences while serving the charge. Former pastors and their
families attending in addition to Rev. and
Mrs. Cobb and Rev. and Mrs. Lawson were
Rev. and Mrs. Rial Simons of Fl at Rock ,
Gary Lyons and children. Rev. Milford
Bowen is the current pastor.

away Tuesday morning at The·Memorial
Hospital.
Mrs. Cobb was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at the
First United Methodist Church, Owosso,
Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in
Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Dr. Norbert W. Smith and Dr. Ivan 0. Gonser
will officiate. The body rests at JenningsLyons Chapel. Memorials may be made ·
to the First United Methodist Church
Owosso.

Mrs. Cobb was born in Caseville, Mich.
March 6, 1899, the daughter of August
and Lydia (Schartle) Frank. She attended schools in Caseville. She and the
Rev. James N. Cobb were married in
Caseville, Dec. 29, 1915. Rev. Cobb had
pastored churches in Owosso in 1969
Flint, Burton, Hillman, Corunna'
Columbiaville, and Weberville. H~
predeceased her in 1971.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs.
Norman (Kathryn) White of Henderson
and Mrs. Gayle (Lydia) Flannery of
Wheaton, Ill.; 4 grandchildren; 8 greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Emma
Musselman of Tawas.
