W1ll JOIN GLOBAL MINISTRIES

Ken Colton Named Hunger Aide
By the time this article reaches your home, you will have
already heard that I have accepted a national position with
the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist
Church. November 2 will be my last Sunday as a minister
a ppointed to Ann Arbor First.
In my new role, I will be a Consultant on World Hunger
and Nutrition for th e Division of Health & Welfare
Ministries. The nature of this work will take me to United
Methodist Churches across the Uni ted States. It is my
intention to contin ue to reside in Ann Arbor and establish
an office in one of the United Methodist Churches in our
city.
Although this is an exciting opportunity full of
professional challenge, I am reluctant to leave my ministry
at Ann Arbor First.
_
You are a church that is on a launching pad. You have
been di agnosed by church specialists who prescribed certain
changes. In a short time, for example, you will be voting on
a new orga nizational structure which will be an immense
help in keeping the vital sig ns of this church functioning
smoothly. O nce you have a working system intact, your next
step is to launch off into dynamic expressio ns of the
Christian ch urch.
The next three to five years are vital years for Ann Arbor
First. There is a mnistry to the " unchurched" who need to
hear the good news of belonging to the Christian faith. Of
equal im portance we need to celebrate tha t Good News
among ourselves!
Ann Arbor First is an exciting church. I am glad that we
had an opportunity to share our ministry. We have wrestled
over some issues together, and we have disagreed on som e of
the issues. But during my three years of m inistry with you, I
have always felt the support of lay persons in this church,
regardless of where we stood. T his is a fi ne qu ality you have
-- to always have respect for a nother person regardless of
differences.
When I return to the parish m inistry, I genuinely hope I
find Jay people who are as kind a nd thoughtful as the
mem bers and friends of First Church.
M ay God bless a nd enrich you a ll in your ministry!
-- Ken Colton
