AUTOBIOGRAPHY: Life in thi s world began
fo r me on May 17, 1927, so I will be 62 in june
and retire after 40 years of service in th e
pastorate.
My parents were Mr. and M rs. W.B. Cozadd of
Gaines, Michigan, and I was one of eight
child ren. Five of these eight children have lived
in Methodist parsonages in Michigan . Mother
told all of us that the highest calling in life was
the ministry because she wanted one of us to
go into the ministry. She did her job we ll.
I graduated from Austin High School in Chicago,
Chicago Evangelistic Institute (1949), Central
Michigan University (19S2), and GarrettEvangelical Theological Seminary (1956).
Fay was born in Dothan, Alabama, and grew up in Albany, Georgia. We met in Chicago
and decided to end the Civil War once and for all, so we were married on August
21, 1948. We didn't know it, but we also started the Ecumen ical Movement because
we were two Methodists ma rried by a Presbyterian minister (Dr. Dan Iverson, who
wrote "Spirit of the l iving God, Fall Afresh on M e") in Plymouth Congregational Church
in Coconut Grove, Florida.
We have four children: Barbara King in Boulder, Colorado, janet Burns in Ponti ac,
Ron in Clawson, and Bruce in Crested Butte, Colorado. Add to these our five grandch ildren and life never has a dull moment.
Our home is on the east side of Sage Lake, Hale, Michigan. Another Methodist minister
has a place on the w est side of the lake and we have had an agreement that the east
shall not meet the west (and talk "shop") ... and no other mi nisters are welcome.
We plan to winter in Panama City Beach, Florida, where the fish ing is good and th e
sunsets are beautiful.
We are looking forward to th e future with great anti cipation and expectancy of " those
things that are good and that deserve prai se; th ings that are true, noble, right, pure,
lovely, and honorable."
.

TESTIMONIAL: On behalf of all the parishes where the Rev. Frank Cozadd served,
I am delighted to write th is testimonial. We all had something in common. Our congregations needed to be pulled together and launched in to a common purpose, which
then resulted in a major building program.
Frank was as fine an administra tor as cou ld be found anywhere in our confe rence.
He was also a most caring pastor to his congrega tions.
He was our first fu ll time minister at Orchard, Farmington Hi lls. u don Frank's arrival,
we moved in to our first sanctua ry building wi thin two yea rs and into an educational
wing only five years after that.
Orchard church had net membership gains of 100 each of the first two years that Frank
was our minister and averaged over 70 in net membership gains per year during the
nine years that Frank and Fay served Orchard church. Yes, Fay was by his side as
he doggedly followed up on visi tor ca lls almost every day or evening and all wi thout
an associate pastor to help.
Another unique characteri stic for a United Methodist min ister helped w ith thi s enviable accomplishment. He learned to trust and delegate to lay people.
During our building programs and associated tight cash periods, we added a wing
to the parsonage and brought his salary to above average with a 20% ra ise in one
year as a spontaneous expression of our appreciation for their selfless work at Orchard.
I'm sure that all of the churches that the Cozadds served remember them w ith the
same appreciation and affection as we do and wish them the best in reti rement.
1 hope that the many friends and acquaintances of these dynamic, but low key and
unassuming servants of God w ill congratulate Frank and Fay in retirement w ith new
appreciation. They made such a difference!
Myron Shiller, Past Chairperson under Frank (various comm.)
