four retiring pastors

The Detroit Annual Conferen ce honored four pastors
granted retirement status in
1996. The number was down
this year compared to years
past, but the speeches and the
emotions felt were still present.
G. Charles Ball- 41 years
ser vice. Rev. Ball came from
the
E van gelical
United
Brethren Church, and was
ordained an elder in 19 61. He
ser ved many churches, last
ser ving the Frankenmuth
UMC. He and wife Margaret
will be living in Saginaw, where
C h arles will continue his ministry part-time on the staff of
Midland: First.
Paul F. Blomquist - 41
years service . Rev. Blomquist
h as served as delegate to five
General and Jurisdictional
Conferences.
He
served
churches in the West Michigan,
New England, and Detroit
Conferences, and was F lint
District Superintendent in the
mid- 70's . Pa ul and wife Bca
'arc moving to the C larkston
area, where they look forward
to "new adventures and holy
surprises."
Lames A. c~- 40 years
service. Rev. C raig h as spen t

the last 25 years in appointments beyond the local
church, mos t recently the Congregational D evelopm ent Unit
of the National Division, General Board of Global Ministries. H e served churches in
the Central Illinois, New York
and Detroit Conferences, and
was Flint District Superintendent frOD:l 1979 to 1985, following Paul Blomquist. He
and wife Phyllis will reside in
Montclair, New Jersey, in retirement.
Wayne D. Jensen - 35
years ser vice. Rev. Jen sen
served primarily in the town
and country parish, and grew
up in the Millington Methodist
Church. H e served part-time
in the parish and part- time as
a professor of Sociology. "In all
endeavors," he writes, "I have
sought to be faithful to the call
of the Master." H e and wife
Yvonne will spend retirem ent
years traveling and listening to
grandchildren sing in their
church choir.

Pohly - local pastor; Don Silvis - honorable location.
Being acknowledged for service - Rothwell McVety local pastor; Anna Marie
Austin - Pastor from another
denomination.

Annual Conference. He has serued
pastorates in Dixbo ro, Che lse a
and Grand Blanc since being
graduated from GaiTett Th eological Seminary . He is a member of
th e Confe rence Committ ee on
Standing Rules.
Mr. Craig holds a Ba ch elo 1· of
Science degree from Adrian College and a Master of A 1·ts degree
from Eastern Michigan Uniuersity.
Prior to e nt ering the ministry of
the United Methodist Church h e
worked as an industrial research
chemist in the pharmaceutical and
automotiue f ields.
For the past seueral years he has
directed Un-ited Nations Wa shington Peace Seminars for youth and
Adults . C ommun i ty actiu ities ha ue in uol ued him i n a Y o uth
Assistance Progmm and as an organize r of a commun-ity f owm
on dru g abu se.
Mr. Craig will t each jUSTICE , LIBERATION, AND
DEVEWPMENT.
