REV. AND MRS. HAROLD D. DAKIN
Jf the Auburn church were surprised at
rn open house in the church fellowship
Jail in honor of their 38th wedding anJiversary. They lived in Mason where
Rev. and Mrs. Harold D. Dakin
they both taught school following their
marriage November 26, 1930, in the home
of the bride at Dansville, and Mr. Dakin
served a church near Mason for two and
one-half years. While serving as a student pastor at Ortonville he graduated
from the Detr.oit Institute of Technology
with an A.B. degree and · later received a
B.D. degree from the Oberlin Graduate
School of Theology. He became a member of the Detroit Conference in 1939 and
served · pastorates at Grand Blanc, Flint
Bethlehem, Corunna, Highland Park Emmanuel, Gordonville, Homer, Wisner,
Unionville, Fowlerville, Dearborn Height:
Stephens before being appointed to Au·
burn. The couple have four children
Mrs. Norman Anderson, Winter Haven
Fla.; Mrs. Ronald Thompson, Warren
whose husband is pastor of the Wesley
Methodist Church; Harold D. Dakin, Jr.
Roswell, Ga.; Mrs. Paul Bondarenko
Akron, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren. Amon€
the 200 guests attending were Russel
Dowling of Mason, brother of Mrs. Dakin
Gerald F. Dakin of Ann Arbor and Mrs
Louis Stid of Dansville who were bes
man and maid of honor at the wedding
Dr. Floyd Stevens, senior lay leader, pre·
sented the honorees with a gift from th•
congregation. Refreshments included .

REV . HAROLD D. DA KI N, 75, of H ale,

J a nuary 16 . H e was born J a nua ry 26, 1906,
in Dansville. H e retired as a minister of the
United Meth od ist Ch urch in 197 1, thou gh he
continued to serve as a substitute for
vacati onin g o r ill fri end s until a fe vv mon ths
be fore his dea th . Rev . Da kin is survived by
his wife, Ma rga ret; a son , H arold Da kin, o f
Roswe ll , Ga.; a nd three daughters, Faith
A nderson o f W inter H aven, F la ., Hope
Thompson of Dewitt , M ich ., a nd Dawn
Bondrenko of A kron , M ich. , and thirteen
gra nd children a nd three great-gra nd children.
Services were held Tuesday, Janua ry 19, at
th e H a le UM C. Rev. Theodore Hastin gs , a
long-time fri end , officiated . Burial was
Thursday, J anu ary 21, at Fa irview Cemetery, Da nsville. A ll throu gh hi s many
pasto ra tes he never lost hi s interest in young
peo ple a nd was instrumenta l in encourag ing
ma ny young men in th eir call to th e ministry.
A mem ori al was esta blished at Wisner UM C
in hi s honor as a scholarship fund for
ministeri al stud ents . His widow , Mrs .
Ma rga ret Da kin , is residing with her
daught er a nd son-in-la w, Mr. and M rs. Paul
