1945. Upon discharge we returned to Iron River w here I became employed as an Auto
Parts Clerk at the Lindahl Chevrolet garage. During these years two children were born
to our marriage, janet and )ames. Both children are married Janet living in Petersburg
and )ames in Dundee, M ichigan. Marion and I have five grandchildren.
.
Feeling called to the ministry in 1956 our fami ly moved to Pai nesdale where I served
as a student pastor to four small churches-Painesdale, Tri Mountain, Baltic and Hurontown. At this ti me I attended Suomi Junior College in Hancock and in June 1958 earned an Assoc iate in Arts Degree. In June 1958 our famil y moved to lower Michigan
w here I served the church at M acon to continue my studies at Ad rian College. In June
1960 I graduated Cum Laude earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In the Fall of 1960
I was privileged to be enrolled in the first class at the M ethodist Th eologica l School
in Ohio, being a member of the first graduating class of that seminary in M ay of 1963.

Since graduation and ordination I served Dundee, Whitmo re Lake, M anchester and
W est Branch churches. Whil e at Dundee and Manchester I gave leadership to the
building of new churches.
In February of 1968 I suffered my first heart attack to be followed in later years by
three mo re. After many tests by Cardiologists and heart surgeons it was deicded th at
I should take a Disability leave. This I did in june 1903.
Since then we have lived in the family home in Iron River during the summer and
in the winter in Ocala, Florida.
TESTIMONIAL: Walter and I go back a long way to our days at Methodist Theological
School in O hio. For three years we rode and roomed together whi le attending Seminary.
Walt was a big help to me at school because of his discipline to study and yet, being
able to relax and have fun. After seminary our friendship continued by being together
at Ann ual Conferences and roommates at Pastor's School. Bu t Walt has not been j ust
my friend. He has a great abi li ty for friendship and this has been a great strength for
his ministry. He is a friend to all, both clergy and lay.
Walter is a good minister and commi tted to H is Lord and the ministry of the church.
I va lue the times we spent in talking about the church and our faith. He has been
a great help and inspiration to me as wel l as to those who have come in contact w ith
him. Many ideas I received from Walt have been tu rned into successful programs in
the churches in w hich I was a pastor.
The churches Wa lter has served have been greatly enriched by his leadership and
example. They have been growing churches because of his ministry as he is a very
hard w orker. He also has served his Conference well.
Walter is a gentle, ca ring person w ith a great sense of humo r. He can tell some good
stories and if you are a friend of his, you w ill be a favorite target of his teasing. Perhaps
Walter can best be described as a man w ho loves life, people, and laughter, and has
a contagious love and comm itment to God. If I was a lay person and had the o pportunity to choose a pastor, Wa lter would be my choice.
Carolyn and I are very grateful to have Walter and Marion as ou r very dear friends
and we have shared many wonderful times with them. We look forwa rd to thei r visits
w hen they come up in the summer from Florida. Walter may be retiring, but he wi ll
al ways be in ministry w herever he is.
