It was announced at the Detroit Annual Conference of the United
M~lthodist
James
W~
Church, meeting June 6-9 in Adrian, Michigan, that Rev.
Deeg will be entering into a retired relationship after serv-
ing for 37 years.
Rev. Deeg was received into the United Methodist Church as a
probationary member and ordained a Deacon in 1936.
After graduating
from Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, Illinois, in 1938, he was
received into the Detroit Conference as a Full Member and was ordained
an Elder during the Annual Conference of that year.
He was born in
Detroit, graduated from Western High School, and received his B. S.
degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology in 1 933 .
Rev. Deeg is married to the former Virginia Marshbanks, also of
Detroit, and have two married daughters, Mrs. Virginia Stasivk and
Mrs. Marsha Bryant.
Mr. and Mrs. Deeg have been serving Trinity
United Methodist Church in Roseville, Michigan, but wi ll have a new
retirement address of 2578 N. Lakeshore in Port Sanilac.
While in
Roseville, Rev. Deeg has been a member of the Kiwanis Club and the
chairman of the Det roit Moving Expense Committee.
Previous to serving in Roseville, Mr . and Mrs. Deeg and their
family served , in order, the Harmen Charge in the Illinois Rock River
Conference, and the following United Methodist Churches in the Detroit

Park Chu rch, Pontiac, honored Rev.
a nd Mrs. James W. Deeg on their twentyfifth wedding a nniversary, Sunday ,
Apr il 13 with an open house in the
church fellows hip hall.
Rev. Easton Ha zard of St. Paul's
Church , Pontiac, officiated at a ceremony
of renewal of the wedding vows, witnessed by members f rom each of the
former churches served by t he Deegs,
other friends, the family and present
parishioners.
"Through the Yea •·s" was sung by
Mrs. Clyde Marshba nk s, s is ter of Mr.
Deeg who was accompanied by Mr.
Robert . Stasiuk. A fou r-tier wedding
cake, sliver, crystal and linen g ifts,
and a silver money tree, blossom ing
s ilver dollars and leafing out with g reen
bills, added to the occas ion. Out of town
guests were from Saginaw, Flint, Mayville, Silverwood, P lymouth, Milford,
Clarkston,

ANNABELLE DEEG (Nee Holmes )
was born April 16, 1880, on a farm in
Taylor Town ship, Dearborn, and died
July 30 at the age of 84 in her home at
2213 Junction Ave., D etroit, where she
lived fot· nearly 60 years. Mrs . Deeg
was t he oldest living m ember of the
Campbell Ave. Methodi st Church, Detroit. H er church activiti es beg·an at an
early age and she served a s an officer in
the Epworth League as the youth work
was called at that time. She became a
member of the Ladies' Aid Society and
for a time was its youngest member. In
1905 she was married to Charles E.
Deeg who preceded her in death in 1946.
Mrs . Deeg was always an active member
and pa r t icipan t in church affairs. She
was pt·esidcnt of the Ladi es' Aid Society,
and in 1939 when the three branches of
Methodism uni ted to form The Methodis t
Church and the woman's work was reorgan ized, s he beca me the first president
of the new Woman's Society of Christian Service. Mrs. D eeg served on the
various Boards and Commissions of the
Church until just a few years prior to

her death when eyesight Jail ed and her
body became more frai l. She was the
mo~her of Charles William Deeg of Dett·oit; Rev. James W. Deeg, now serving
the Oakland Park Methodist. Church in
Pontiac; and Annabelle Marshbanks of
Bloomfield Hills . Memorial services
were conducted by Rev. Robe•·t Hall in
the J ohn H. Martensen Mortuary on Au"'us t 3, with intem1 ent in Grandlawn Ce..;';etery.

killed in an automobile accident on
December 2. Rev. Deeg was a retired
member of the Detroit Annual Conference. They resided in Port Sanilac .
Funeral services were held at St. James
United M ethodist Church, Pontiac, on
December 6. Rev. and Mrs. Deeg are
survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charlyne
Stasiuk, of Sandusky.
