died in her sleep, March 8, at Copeland Oaks
Retirement Home, Sebring, Ohio, after a lon g
illness . A graduate of Albion College in 1914
and later from the White Bible School , sh e
received her master's degree in Religious
Education from Northwestern University . Of
her many contributions to the Methodist

Church , and to other churches as well, these
were outstandin g: two periods of teaching in
black schoo ls, Spelman Seminary and Morehouse and Clark Coll eges; a number of years
as f ieldworker for the Board of Christian
Education of th e Presbyterian Church ; editorsh ip ot inte rmediate curriculum materials for
t he former Methodist Church; and teaching in
t he Departm ent of Religion at Mount Union
College in A ll ia nce, Ohio . She spent one year
in Ma lays ia and Singapore helping local
people in th e development of church school
tex ts for intermediates . Along with these
employments she was continually engaged in
writ ing books in her chosen field , and also in
leading teacher-training groups at every level.
Du ri ng her later years she was active in the
ecumenical field , leading parlor dialogue
groups and preparing services for special
ec umenical gatherings . She was a member of
the United Methodist Church in Sebring.
Surv ivors include a sister, Helen Desjardins of
As hevill e, N .C. , a brother, Russell, and family
of Santa Clara, Cal. ; and a sister-in-law, Nina
Desjardin s, of Washington , D .C.
