IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Please
Rex M. Dixon, minister of Marlette United Methodist church, a
member of Detroit Conference and an Elder of the United Methodist
Church, this week was elected to the retired relationship by the
Detroit Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church meeting
at Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan.

Reverend Dixon was recom-

mended for License to Preach by the Charge Conference of Christ
United Methodist Church in September, 1930.

He became full

member of the Kentucky Conference in September, 1934 and transf erred to Detroit Conference in 1936.
Reverend Dixon was born in Ashland, Kentucky where he graduated
from senior high school.

He attended Asbury College in Wilmore,

Kentucky where he received a B.A. degree in 1934 and received a
B.D. degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1936.
He was married to G. Allene Barker of Ashland, Kentucky.

to the staff of First United Methodist

~ He will do part-time visitation and be
~ active in other phases of the work. The

Rev. and Mrs. Rex M. Dixon
anniversa ry on April 15. Rex and Allene
(Barber) Dixon were married in Ashland,
Ky. , in 1927. Mr. Dixon was employed by
Armco and Mrs. Dixon was an elementary teacher. In 1930 th ey moved to
Wilmore, Ky., where Mr. Dixon graduated from Asbury College and Theological
Seminary. While a student, he pastored
churches near Wilmore. After moving to
Michigan in 1936 he became a member
of the Detroit Annual Conference and his
appointments included the Avoca
Charge, Imlay City, Attica; in Detroit,
the Asbury, Brightmoor, Taylor, and East
Grand Boulevard churches; Negaunee,
Corunna, and Marlette. After retiring
from the active ministry in 1972 he
served as visitation minister in churches
at Huntington Beach, Calif., and in
Phoenix, but retired because of ill health .
The Dixons have four daughters, three of
whom are the wives of United Methodist
ministers: Carol, wife of Rev. Arthur B.
Mix, lola, Kan.; Ruth, wife of Dr. W. L.
Truman , Westlake Village, Calif.; Sarah ,
wife of Charles Craig, Des Moines, Iowa;
and Bonnie, wife of Dr . Ron Crandall ,
Tuscon, Ariz. There are eleven grandchildren.
