Detroit Conference Veteran
Honored
H EY do the courtesies in a fin e way
out in Californ ia. The ret ired preac her
is not forgotten or neglected. They g ive
him flowe rs a nd apprec iation while he is
here to enjoy them.
Such was the experience of our Detroit
Conference veteran , Rev. Elias VI' . Frazee.
who served so long and faithfully in hi s
l'v[ichigan pastorates. After going o n the
retired list in 1909, Brother Frazee went t o
Ca lifornia, into whose sunshin e and balminess hi s s unny spirit fitt ed finel y.
Brother Ft·azee with his wife wo rships
a t the Lincoln Avenue Method ist Episcopal church, Pasadena.
His eig htyeighth birthday occurr ed r ecently, a nd he
was invited to celebrate the event by
preaching in the Lin coln Avenue church
on Sunday morning, Jan. 27. He entitled
his sermon "The Las t Crossing," taking
for his t ext J oshua 1 :10, "Within three
days ye shall go over this Jordan."
Rev. Osca r V\T. W illits, who heard the
sermon, writes that it was unusually fr es h
and interesting. "Brot her Frazee spo ke
with surprising force and an un expected
exhibitio n of strength. T he sermon was
preceded by a g ift of violets se nt up by
a lady whom he had married to a Kentuckia n college professor forty years ago,
and whom he had not seen since. And at
the close of the sermon the pasto r presented a bo uquet of eight y -eig ht dark red
carnations, and then t o Mrs. Frazee a
large bunch of sweet peas (bo th the g ift
of the chu rch) with happy cong ratulation s. It seemed as if e\·ery one prese nt
wanted to shake han ds with th e honored
preacher of the morning ."
The Lincoln Avenue church bu llet in
adds: ''Th a t wa s a wonderful service.
' Vhe n F ath er Frazee was speaking it
seem ed as t ho ug h a voice from inside th e
pea rly gat es we re speaking to us. May
added yea rs a nd increas ing blessings be
his."
B•other Frazee sends us a co py of the
church bulletins referring- to these eve nts,
and al so r enews his subscriptio n to the
Ad\·o~ at e . which, he says, "will ca rry me
t o ni nety years, by which t ime J shall
have made 'Th e L as t Crossing'." H ere 's
hoping you may be mistaken in that,
Bro the r Frazee, and will be still going
Hrong into th e nineties!
