Church, Detroit, succeeding Rev. Wa lter
B. Heyler who retired f or health reasons.
For the last seven years Dr. Adams has
been the pastor of Simpson Methodist
Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Before
that he served past orates in that state
at Garrett, Elkhart, Union City and
Waynedale where a new church was
built.
Dr. Adams is a na tive of Indiana having been born at Redkey where he gradu-

ated from high school following which
he took work at Ball Sta te and Evansville colleges. H e was a dmitted into fuil
connection in the N orth Indiana Conference in 1925. Mrs. Ada ms is a graduate
of Oxford College, Ohio. They have one
married daughter Phyllis E. Eyer.

G. Adams has served four pastorates in
the Detroit Conference, namely, Boulevard Temple, Detroit; J efferson Avenue, Saginaw; Firs t Church, Trenton;
and First Church, Pontiac. Previous to

at an open house in the Simpson United
Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Adams transferred to the Detroit '

Rev. Carl G. Adams
in the North Indiana Conference totaling 26 and three-fourths years. With
the 15 years spent in the Detroit Conference, he now plans to retire at the
current session of the conference with
a total of nearly 42 years in the active
ministry.
In both conferences he served on important boards and committees. In the
Detroit Conference he was a member
of the Board of Evangelism and Board
of Education. During his pastorates
important building programs were carried on. A church was built while he
served the Waynedale Church at Fort
Wayne. At Saginaw an education building was constructed at a cost of $250,000
and at Pontiac a $160,000 remodeling
and improvement program was completed.
For the first year of retirement the
Adamses plan no r egular work. As he
describes it, "Off comes the 'work harness' and on goes the 'carriage harness'." This is another way of saying
they will not quit. but will .pull a lighter
load. Seven month s of the year they
plan to live at their lake home at Epworth Forest, La ke Webster, Ind!ana,
and the r est of the year at Wmter
Haven, Florida, although they expect to
do some traveling.
Throughout hi s ministry Mr. Adams
has been active in many civic a nd religious organizations. While in Detroit,
he was a member of the Council of
Churches Education Committee and the
E conomic and Kiwanis ·Clubs. In Saginaw he was president of the Ministerial
Association, the Saginaw Council of
Churches and on the Chaplain's St~ff .of
has been a member of the Pontiac Area
Associated Churches, the Ministerial •
A~sociation and on the Chaplain's CommJttee of the General Hospital.

Rev. and Mrs. Adams
Conference in 1950 and served Detroit
Boulevard Temple, Saginaw Jefferson
Avenue, Trenton, and Pontiac First. He
retired in 1965 and they returned to Indiana where they make their home at 1114
Wesley Drive, Epworth Forest, North
Webster, 46555. Rev. and Mrs. Adams
were married at Redkey, Ind., November
3, 1920. In addition to their daughter, Mrs.
E. L. Byer of Fort Wayne, they have thre
grandchildren, Jonathan, Cynthia an~
Gregory.
REV. CARL G. ADAMS, 81, of North
Webster, Indiana, and Winter Haven
Florida, died in a Syracuse, Ind., hospitai
recent ly after sufferi ng a heart attack in his
home. He was married to Emma Luzadder
who survives. A retired Methodist minister:
he had served many churches in the Detroit
and northern India na con ferences and was a
member of North Webster UMC. He moved
to North Webster from Pontiac, Mich., in
1962. He was a member of the Saginaw,
Mich., Masonic Lodge and a former grand
chaplain of the York Rite, Detroit. His
widow Emma survives, in addition to one
daughter, Mrs. Edward (Phyllis) Byer, Fort
Wayne; three grandchildren; and one
brother, Ralph Adams, of Hartford City,
Ind. Rev. Harold Aeel officiated at the

funeral.
