The Pastor's Study, July 6, 1962
It is with much pleasure that we present
this new 1962-63 Church Directory to the members of the Church. We hope that every family
in our Church receives a copy, for it is a most
excellent tool in assisting us to carry out our
work. This directory includes the history of the
Church, pictures of our Sanctuary, both interior
and exterior, the officiary and an up to date alphabetical listing of our membership, addresses
and telephones as of the date we went to press.
Quite naturally, in an effort of this kind, there
may be some errors. I! you discover any involving yourself or others, would you kindly contact
our Church Office?
Nardin Park is recognized in our Conference as one of the leading and
strong Churches, both of our city and of our State. Our past record of achievements is but a forecast of a glorious future. This, of course, is not to be
taken for granted! It is tremendously important that each Church member be
at his or her best for Christ and for Nardin Park. We must put Him first, so
that when our Church calls us we are available. When any major interest or
program of the Church comes along, we should enter it enthusiastically and
TOGETHER.
We cannot get aong without you-your prayers, your presence, your gifts
and your service! It is my unswerving confidence in you that you will arise to
the challenge of keeping Nar din Park great in every way. For th e smooth
running of our Church, patticularly as it pertains to the duties of Mr. Benish,
Mr. Clapp, Mrs. Rhoad and myself, we have outlined the basic responsibilities
as follows:
My responsibilities will be the preaching program of the Church at the
morning services, planning the worship services, preparation of bulletin material, hospital visitation of our people, calls in the home where there is death,
major responsibility for funerals and the interment; interviews, planning,
rehearsals, and weddings; baptismals; staff relationship with the Sanctuary
Choir, Methodist Men, Woman's Society of Christian Service, Wesleyan Service
Guild, the Commissions on Worship, Finance, and Christian Social Concerns;
Trustees, Music Committee, Ushers, Acolytes, Communion Stewards, drama,
Nardin Park Players, Hospitality and House Committees, Personnel, Publicity,
Pastora l Relations and Nominating Committees; representation of Nardin Park
at District and Conference levels as required by the Discipline; responsibility
for such special services as Christmas Eve, New Year's, Maundy Thursday,
Good Friday, Memorial Sunday, L abor Day Sunday, Peace Sunday, Palm
Sunday, Easter Sunday, etc.; staff relationship for the Lenten Services; relationships with our Conference institutions-Albion College, Adrian College,
Bronson Hospital, Chelsea Methodist Home and Methodist Children's Village;
and a relationship with the Alpha Sigma Kappa Class and the Christian Homebuilders Fellowship Class.
Very naturally, there will be some over-lapping for I will n eed some assistance from both Mr. Clapp and Mr. Benish in some of these activities, as they
will periodically need assistance in their major roles. But this is an outline
to help us all to the enjoyment of our Christian responsibility and leadership.
T herefore, may we have your prayers, as you sh all have ours, for the good
of the Church and the enhancement of the Kingdom here in our corner of
God's vineyard.
Most Cordially,
Your Pastor-Jo hn L. A dams
