MID YEAR FINANCIAL REPORT
$24,000 needed for one year
$12,000 needed by July 1st.
$11,150 amount r eceived, 7% behind
Note: Summer slack period is upon us.
Recommendations by Finance Committee:
(1) Be careful that we do not get behind by
giving ahead or mailing in .
(2) Everyone able, increase giving by the same
percent we are behind (7%).
A church that has enjoyed the financial success we have had need not burden a new pastor
with such problems.
Leroy Aldrich, Finance Chm.

We share with you excerpts from a recent
letter from Kermit R. Hainl ey, Executive Director of EAGLE BOYS Village, INC., Hersey,
Michigan 49639 .
"Once again we are asking your help in providing the needed funds to subsidize th e s ummer
program. With increased cost it is essenti a l
that we provide more scholarships for those who
need the help provided here but do not have the
finances to seek that help. Due to increased pressure and lack of time it was deemed necessary
that the Village auction be cancelled.
After consultation with the Village s taff and
contractor it was di scovered that a savings of
fifteen hundred dollars per unit or six thousand
dollars could be realized by divertitlg staff hours
from auction preparation to cabin erection. This
coupled with increased gasoline cost and vehicle
maintenance seemed to dictate that this wa s the
best course of action.
We thank each of you so very much from the
Teds, Bills, a nd Johns for the s upport you have
given, for the opportunities you have provided
and the lives you have helped to change. The
snowball continues to reap dividends. Please help
us to help a boy this year."

•••••••••••

Late June 31, 1973, an unsolicited manuscript was found marked "Messenge r." Here
goes ...
"It's high tim e this messenger gave equal
time to the r.t!al hero of this congregation , th e
church mouse. Hours and hours of work put in
building tunnel networks fo r s natching goodie s
from the kitchen, and not having to mi ss more
than one chorus of the hymn - - How 's tha t for
organization? I only wish the ladies wet·en't so
thorough in keeping the kitch en so clean.
"I saw all the hustle and bustle of movi ng at
the parsonage. Sure am going to mi ss the Robertsons. Hate to have to break in a new fam ily.
Hope they learn fas t. I'm glad they have a dog .
I put that in my reque s t to the Bishop, "no cat. "
Guess I have conne ctions. My only ··egret is that

when all that fancy work was being done on the
parsonage no one thought of my cubby hole. Sure
could use some acoustical tile: . the whole place
rattles when the phone rings.
Br-r-rr-rr-r
ring!

FROM THE PASTOR'S D.ESK
Dear Ones ,
What an opportunity it is to be writing to you
in our first newsletter. Sometimes newsletters
tend to lose their impact when arriving in a stack
of mail , or worse yet, a s tack of bills. But for
me, and I hope you, it signals yet another chapte r
in our Christian hi s tory together. That's what a
church is organized for - - to make his tory.
If a great inventor sa l down to design a
"history-making mac hine" , what would he do?
Well, he would want the machine to definitely
start off with a good history-making event, you
know - - to prove itself. Our Christian "machine"
certainly meets that bill with th e life-g iving
Easter event.
I suppose the machine ought to have arms
that reach to local , neighborhood centers to start
history and arms extending in big clumps all
round the world. We don ' t do too badly there.
The machine ought to know what kind of history it wants to make. That's easy - - bringing
the me ssage of Je s us to persons; to r elieve
life 's suffering, shortness, fear , loneliness, and
feelings that we don't mea s ure up.
A machine needs energy power. We've got it
- - people power. Experts , and experts in the
making. Experts at caring. Caring on all kinds
of ways with all kinds of ta lents. What better
device for caring could an inventor think of than
another person, a human being?
A history -making machine, constantly on the
move to the center of life ; dismantling the road
blocks as it builds. What an adventure it will be ,
riding with you on our great history- making
machine .
Love and joy,
Bob Adams
