R. EUGENE ALLEN, r etired member of the Detroit Conference, died
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. \Villiam Vliet, Clarkston, on Tuesday, November 5, of coronary thrombosis.

son of Rev. Charles
T. and Elnom Root

Dr. Allen
and Pontiac an rl
graduated from Albion College in 1895 as valedictorian of
his class. In 1892 he married Minnie
McKeand at Pontiac, who died in 1942.
His second wife, Charlena Robbins Letts
of Owosso also p r eceded him in death
in 1947.
In 37 years of active ministry Dr.
Allen served ch urches in Oskaloosa, Burlington, Cedat· F alls, and I owa Falls,
I owa; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Anderson, Indiana; and \Vatrousville,
Birmingham, Detr oit Preston , Ypsilanti,
and Owosso First iri Michigan .
, Dr. Allen was al so well known ·to
Michi gan Methodists for his book reviews
which ran in the Michigan Clwistian Advocate over a period of some years.
Bes ides the daughter, he is survived
by one son, Edward of Akron, N .Y., and
two grandsons.
Funeral services were h eld at the
Sha rpe Funeral Home, Clarkston, Rev.
W alter C. B. Saxman, officiating. Dr.
A rth U1: D. Klontz, district superintendent, spoke briefly concerning the life
and ministry of Dr. Allen; Rev. T.
Leon a rd Sanders of Owosso, read a favorite hymn; and the sen;ce concluded
with the reading of another hymn and
the benediction. At Ypsilanti, where
burial was made in Highland Cemetery,
Dr. Clyde Donald gave the committal
and H. Addis Leeson pronounced the
benediction. Bearers were : Evan Clark
and Harold Letts of Owosso, step-children; George Elliott, Wallace Ridgley,
