son at Albion on Saturday nig ht, :\1 ay 26,
at 10 :~5 o'clock. ~he had reached the age
of 75 years. Thus has passed a good woman and true. uni,·e rsally !o,·cd by all who
knew her.

home four mil~s from Ida. ~[onroe county.

daught er grew up, taught sc!1ool and dc,·clopcd a keen mind, engaging personality
and 01irstian character.
On. Dec. 23, 1879. she was married to
Charles \ V. Baldwin, also the son of
pioneer parents living in an adjoi ning
t own ship. For eight yea rs they li ,·ed on
a f2rm ncar the Sykes home. Then, in
1887. :\1 r. Baldwin fe lt the urge o f a call
to the mini stry, a nd j oined the Detroit
Confe rence on probation.
F or thirty y&.\rs this" devoted couple
scn·cd in the acti,·e itincracy, giving fu ll
proof of their min istty. in nu merous pastorates, anJ in the district s uperintendency. on P ort H uron, Bay City, and Flint
dbtr icts. Dr. Baldwin served two large
Det roit churches as pastor; was very
prvm incnt in Conference rela tions and in
connection with A lbion College, the O ld
People's Home, the Deaconess H ome, etc. ;

In 1920 D r. Ba ldwin died s udden ly, at
t he compa rative ly early age o f six ty-one.
Mrs. Ba ldwin then we nt to Albion, wh ere
s he ma de her home, fi rst with her da ug hter, M iss Mary B . Baldwi n, later with her
sons, Richa rd T. a nd J oseph A. T wo
win ters were spent in Californ ia with her
daugh ter, now M rs. John H . Wheeler of
Arcadia, Ca lif., a nd parts of two years
in Detroit with her sons, Benja min A. a nd
H oward C. H er l<iter ye~ r s were t hus
passed sere ne ly a nd beautifu lly wit h her
childre n, as she waited for th e reunion
with her loved compa nion in th e be tter
Ja nel.
D r. and i\Irs. Baldwin had one daughter and six sta lwart sons- a remarkable
fam ily who have a ll made good in a most
w orthy way. T he daug hter h as a lready
bee n named. The sons a re Richard T.,
Roher t vV., and I oseph A., of A lbion ; Benj a min A., and H owa rd C., of Detroit ; a nd
Pau l R. o f Ma nistiq"be. Th e s ix sons were
bea r ers at their fat her's funera l. and were
able to perform a like valued sen·ice fo r
their be loved moth er-quite a r emarkable
ci rcumsta nce. The daughter was detained
:)lt home by illness.
The funera l service was at Albion on
Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Dr. Victor
W. Thra ll, assisted by R ev. J oshua S ta nsfield o f S t. Cla ir, one of the fami ly's
warmest friends, Rev. I. H . Riddick, fathe r
of M rs. Richa rd T . Baldwin, and P resident
S ea ton of the college. Buria l was beside
Dr. Baldwin in Riverside cemetery, Albion.
