Scholarship
program.
These students
are among 15,000
semifinalists and
are eligible to compete for some 3000

merit scholarships

examination.
Those receiving $1000 will receive onetime stipends of $1000 upon enrolling in
college. Winners of four-year scholarships may receive up to $1,500 upon enrolling in college. Schola•rship recipients
will be announced in May.
Nancy is the daughter of Rev. James
R. Balfour, Marquette Distf1ct supermtendent, and Mrs. Balfour.

Rev. and Mrs. James R. Balfour of Mount
Clemens, was married to PVT. JAMES E.
SCHACHT, son of Dr. and Mrs. Elmer J.
Mrs. James E. Schacht
Schacht of Marquette, on December 23 at
two o'clock in the Firs t United Methodist
Church, Mount Clemens. The couple were
given in marriage by their parents. Rev.
J ames R. Balfour II, brother of the bride,
joined with the bride's father in performing the service. Their attendants were
Gerald and Susan Mutly of Lansing. Miss
Nancy Parrott, Port Huron, was soloist
and Mrs. George Schudlich, organist. The
ushers were Robert, Thomas and John
Schacht, brothers of the groom. Mary
Schoen Balfour, sisteL'-in-law of the bride,
was in charge of the guest book, Mrs.
Donald Semrau, the name tags, and Kathleen Schacht, sister of the groom, presided
at the punch table. A buffet reception, held
in the new multipurpose room of the
church under the direction of Mrs. Edward
Maxim, was served by the ladies of the
Women's Society. Among the more than
200 guests from Michigan, Ohio, New York,
Pennsylvania and lllinois were Mr. and
Mrs. John Balfour, grandparents of the
bride, and Mrs. James M. Kelley, Youngstown, Ohio, grandmother of the groom.
The newlyweds are at home at 825 Casanova Avenue, Apt. 12, Monterey, California 93940, where Mr. Schacht is specialIZing in German at the International
Language School, Presidio of Monterey.
