Harold and Sarah Brown

1. My father was a dynamic preacher. There was an urgency to his messages that the
congregation could not escape. He spoke out of a deep commitment to God that sustained him
over 52 years of active ministry. He saw his calling as a sacred vocation to which he was
devoted with all his being. He loved relating the truth of the gospel to his flock, and his single
goal in life was to serve God. He sacrificed comfort and leisure to do the will of God, and it
brought him great personal joy and fulfillment.
( / 9 .s 6 - 7 7 fo/~~ 7
2. Dad believed in exercising pastoral leadership of the congregation to assure good management
as .well as spiritual health. When he arrived at a new appointment, he set out immediately to
get that church on a sound financial footing. This was particularly the case if the church was
accepting financial aid from the Conference. He believed that independent financial standing
was essential for each congregation, and he worked to inculcate that attitude wherever he served.
His churches were always self-sustaining and supported the Conference with their fair share.
3. My mother was able to devote herself to Dad's ministry on a fulltime basis. She was a
pianist, choir member, and active in pastoral visitation, women's auxiliary, and worship
programs. My parents were a pastoral team. Time and again their parishioners commended
their care and love, asserting that they were the best shepherds the church had ever had. They
saw themselves as Christ's servants involved in advancing His kingdom. My mother sacrificed
her personal life to stand at my father 's side in every assignment.

FOOTPRINTS IN THE WAY OF HOLINESS
We praise You, Lord, for gracious saints
Who showed to us the Living Way ,
And not alone by deed or word,
But their whole being day by day
Revealed the Way of Holiness.
For those who have preceded us
And now before Your presence st a nd,
Triumphant over suffering,
Kept by Your powerful Hand Pursued The Way of Holiness.
Lord, we who strive to follow them
Need al l Your Hol y Spirit's p ower
To keep us in the n a rrow path
And through this dark a nd evil hour
Walk in the Way of Holiness.
As we lo ok back in gratitude,
Our he arts and live s, 0 Lord, inspire
That we may true examples be
And filled with zea l and holy fire
Maintai n the Way of Ho lines s.
Thus, a.s we wend our pilgrim way
By grace throughout this vale of tears,
May we for those who follow us
Lea v e plain and l asting down the years
Footprints in the Way of Holiness.

SAFELY HOME
FOR REV. HAROLD BROWN
Although with grief we see him go
From this earthly life below~
The one we honour here today
Was filled with praise and loved to pray.
Never a murmur or complaint
Was uttered by that dear old saint.
And though he suffered a long while
He always had the sweetest smile.
Now reunited once again
With the one he loved and lost with pain~
He is rejoicing "Over There ";
So why should we in mourning share?
Though his dear body silent lies~
His spirit sings beyond the skies~
In Jesus' presence to rejoice
As "Hallelujahs'' tune his voice.
So though our hearts may still feel sad
Praise God for all the years he had
When, with much joy he served the Lord
And found his strength within God's Word.
Let us with him our voices raise
With one accord in grateful praise
Because he has reached Heaven's shore;
And though we' ll see him here no more~
We too should Halle.lujahs sing
To Jesus Christ, our Lord and King~
For He has led him Safely Home
Where someday we shall also come.
By God' s Grace we there shall meet
And find Eternal Joy complete.
Honoria A. Groves

F aith Church, Detroit, extended a wann
wel'i!'Ome to the Harold R. Browns following the ir re-appomtirient by the :Annual
Conference. Almost all of the congregation
remained following a Sunday morning
worship service to enjoy a dainty luncheon
prepared by the ladies of the church and
to offer greetings to Pastor and Mrs.
Brown. A highlight of the event w as the
presentation of a "Bargain Date Book" to
the Browns containing appointments to be
entertained in the homes or dine out with
the members of the congr ega tion as well as
s everal offers of service to assist the parsonage family.
The entire idea was the work of Mrs.
Gladys Fitzgerald, chair man of the Finance
Committee, who presided a t the coffee
hour.
In replying to this gesture of good will
and generosity, the pastor commended the
members on their loyalty, faithfulness
and wholehearted aupport which ha~
brought the church during the past two
years to an all-time high in attendanc
~;nd financial support.
